Industrial infrastructure available in the District

All the basic infrastructures are available in the district for Industrial development can be achieved.  The physical and social infrastructure are briefed as under

a) Road :- 

The district is connected by NH- 42, NH- 23 and NH - 6. These roads supported with State Highways and MDRs promotes transport facility.  Different types of roads running through the District are as under.

1) National Highways            
2) State Highways       
3) Major District Roads         
4) Other District Roads         

b) Railways :-

Angul Railway Station is well connected with all the major Railway junctions including that of State Capital i.e. Bhubaneswar.  The approximate rail length is about 110 kms. and there are 12 Railway Stations in the District.

c) Water and Irrigation:

Medium irrigation , minor irrigation projects and  lift irrigation points are in operation in the District.  The Major portion of this district is covered by river Mahanadi, Brahamani and their Tributaries.

d) Power:

Electricity, the main source of power is the specialty of Angul District.  Due to its geographical advantage, four major power plants have been commissioned in the district.  They are Super Thermal Power Station of NTPC at Kaniha, Thermal Power Station of NTPC at Talcher, Captive Power Plant of NALCO at Angul  and Hydro Power Generation Centre of OHPC at Rengali.

e) Minerals

The major minerals of the District are Coal, Chromites, Graphite, Manganese, Granite etc.

Industrial Estates:-

There are two nos. of Industrial Estate located at Angul and Southbalanda, Talcher and one Industrial Area at Kangula in Angul District.  The Divisional Head, IDCO, Angul is in-charge of these Industrial Estate/ Area.  They are providing land and built up sheds to the needy entrepreneurs interested to set up industries.

Testing Laboratory

There is one Testing Laboratory of Directorate of Export Promotion and Marketing, Odisha, Bhubaneswar functioning in the Industrial Estate , Angul.  One officer in the rank of Dy. Director is in charge of this laboratory.  The Laboratory is equipped with sophisticated plant and machinery and skilled personnel for providing testing facilities on tensile strength, compressive strength and bending strength etc..

Industrial Atmosphere of the District

The prime necessities like coal and power and their surplus availability in the District have always lured the Mega Industries to spread their network.  The mushroom growth of large and medium scale industries has of course augmented the promotion of MSME sector in a big way thereby making the District as the Industrial hub of the State.
