The main objective of this programme therefore is to break the inter-generational cycle of gender discrimination. Discrimination against the girl child and women under the programme, the adolescent girls are being imparted three days training as well as they are provided with de-warming tablet and iron fortified tablet free of cost through Anganwadi Centers. 6. Anganwadi Karyakartri Bima Yojana (AKBY): The scheme is effective from 01.02.04 and is optional for the target group i.e. Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers. Any Anganwadi worker or helper who has not been covered under any other Janashree Bima Yojana of L.I.C. can be a member of A.K.B.Y. She has to fill up and application for hand it over the Nodal Agency along with her share of the Annual Premium for coverage under the scheme. The annual premium of the scheme is Rs.200/- out of which the L.I.C.s Social Security Scheme shall provide Rs. 100/-, Government of India in D.W.C.D. shall provide Rs.100/-, and the A.W.W./A.W.H. shall contribute Rs.80/- per year. 7. Nutrition Programmes: Mid-Day-Meal (M.D.M) Programme: The Mid-Day-Meal Programme was introduced in 1995 to provide a cooked noon meal to Primary School Children of all Government, Government-aided Schools studying in Class I-V & VI-VIII for 230 working days in a year. Further, inmates of Special Schools and NCLP are also included in the programme. The scheme aims at increasing the enrollment and reducing the number of school dropouts while also improving the nutrition status of the children. During the financial year 2001-02 w.e.f. 01.07.2001, it was decided by the Government to provide a cooked meal to the Primary School Children in all Government and Government Aided Primary School Children only in Rural areas of the 8 K.B.K. Districts (80 Blocks including 44 I.T.D.A. Blocks) and in 74 I.T.D.A. Blocks of the Non-K.B.K. Districts. Thus, cooked food under the Mid-Day-Meal Programme was provided only in K.B.K. and I.T.D.A. blocks. As regards other districts of the State dry ration 3 Kgs of rice per beneficiary per month was being supplied. But as per Government in Women and Child Development Department, Odisha, Bhubaneswar L. No. 152/ SWCD Dt. 16.08.05 cooked meal was introduced in all Government and Government aided Primary Schools along with E.G.S./ A.I.E., N.C.L.P., Special Schools and Orphanages w.e.f. 01.09.2004. Under the scheme, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development Department of Elementary Education and Literacy, New Delhi, are providing rice free of cost 100 grams. Per beneficiary per day for 230 days every academic year. Later on, Government in W & CD, Department, Odisha, Bhubaneswar decided to entrust the management of M.D.M. to WSHGs and NGOs running E.G.S. centers throughout the state. This programme is running in 2337 nos. of Schools in 12 blocks of the district covering 1,47,844 beneficiaries with the following ration cost per beneficiary per day.
