Benefits From The Project:-
The power generated from Balimela Power House are supplied to Odisha grid & EREB. Originally 533 Kms of double circuit 220 KV transmission lines were constructed from Balimela to Talcher through Theruvali (BTTL line). Subsequently the 3rd 220 KV circuit to Theruvali was added. With the growth of Odisha Power Grid and with added demand of power in subsequent years, some modifications have been effected. Presently three 220 KV transmission lines from Balimela are connected to Theruvali via 220 KV Jayanagar Sub-station. From Theruvali the double circuit lines to Talcher via 220 KV Grid S/S Bhanjanagar & double circuit line to Narendrapur Sub-station From Bhanjanagar again double circuit to Chandaka has been constructed. From Jayanagar Sub-station one double circuit line is connected to 400 KV PGCIL for power evacuation from Upper Kolab & Balimela to Power grid. The extension of these 220 KV Lines connecting to different 220 KV Sub-station has provided stability & additional benefit to the Odisha grid as well as EREB for meeting the system demand. A single circuit 220 KV line was also constructed from Balimela Power station to Upper Sileru Power Station of Andhra Pradesh. This 25 KM long single circuit transmission line was supposed to serve as an interstate line as well as inter regional grid line connecting Eastern & Southern grids. This line is at present in defunct condition and under the process of taken over by OPTCL.
The Project also gives ample employment opportunities to the local people besides producing a large number of skilled workers in various trades. Standard of living of the local people has improved to a great extent due to this Project. The overall benefit from the project is very high.
