O/o the Gangadhar Meher Junior College, Sambalpur is located at Sambalpur, Odisha.
This office comes under the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha.
The College aims at providing quality teaching to the students in Arts, Science and Commerce streams and to equip them with armoury of skills and advanced information to enable them to prove their merits in various spheres of public life.
1. Brief History of the Public Authority:
Established in 1944 as Sambalpur College in the heart of Sambalpur town, the name of the institution was renamed as Gangadhar Meher College in 1949. Gangadhar Meher Evening College was started in 1963 in the G.M. College campus. It was renamed as Gangadhar Meher Morning College in 1967. In July 1998, the Morning College was renamed as Gangadhar Meher Junior College vide Govt. Order No.25942/ HE, dt.28.05.1998 with complete transfer of +2 stream in Arts, Science & Commerce from G.M. College. In 2008 (11.04.2008), G.M. Junior College was separated from G.M. (Auto) College in all respects with an independent Principal exercising academic, administrative and financial powers. The college is affiliated to the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha and is functioning under the administrative control of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha.
2. Aim & Objective of the Public Authority:
The College aims at providing quality teaching to the students in Arts, Science and Commerce streams and to equip them with armoury of skills and advanced information to enable them to prove their merits in various spheres of public life.
3. Strength of the Pubic Authority:
The College is one of the premier institutions of the state providing teaching facility in Arts, Science and Commerce streams at +2 level to more than 2200 students mostly from the rural areas of the Western Odisha and some other parts of the State.
4. List of Services being provided by the Public Authority with a brief write of them:
The College has introduced Career oriented and time tested course such as Information Technology for +2 Science students on a self-financing mode to suit them to the present information era.
5. Main Activities/ Functions of the Public Authority:
The College has been identified as a nodal centre to upgrade the academic standards of the students with a special focus upon the improvement of the standards of the weaker students.
The institution is fully committed to achieve its lofty aim and mission of brining academic excellence in our State. Besides, the college is entrusted a sacred and supreme duty to prepare the budding citizens to make right decisions in picking up right vocations.
