Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Objective/ Purpose of the Public Authority:
To act as the middle tier in established 3 tier PRIs as institutions of Self Government.
2. Mission/ Vision:
a) To enable PRI to Plan and Implement the Schemes for Economic Development of The Poverty Striven People Living in Block.
b) To ensure through PRIs the prosperity and quality life in its territory.
3. Brief History of the Public Authority and Contents of its Formation:
Laxmipur Block has started functioning as pre extension stage from 1.1.1960 out of 14 blocks in the District of Koraput. This block is stretched over an area of 453.25 Sq. Kms covering 13 G.Ps and 100 Revenue Villages. The Total Population of the Block is 54919 as per 2001 census out of which ST Population of the Block is 37606; SC population is 7383 and others 9930.
4. Duties of the Public Authority:
To monitor the utilization of funds received by it and by the Gram Panchayats to carry out development works and poverty allevation programme.
5. Main Activities and Functions of the Public Authority:
a) To monitor the functioning of Gram Panchayat within the framework of powers and authorities entrusted in a 3 tier PRIs system.
b) To supervise and monitor the utilization of funds received by the Gram Panchayats for implementation of wage employment and self employment programme and to utilize the funds received by it for such programme.
