Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Brief History and Background of the Establishment:

On the outskirts of a small town Nimapara , 40 k.m away from Bhubaneswar, the Nimapara College stands amide vast expending green field with natural abundance of a picturesque phenomena. Situated across two roads one that runs to Srikhetra, Puri the city of Lord Jagannath and other touching the sea at Konark famous for magnificent Sun Temple, the Nimapara college vibrates with multifarious activties with the strong boundary wall spreading around a vast area of 16 acres of land, the encircling greenery saturated with coconut plant, bushy trees and a large pond inside the campus where varied fishes play and shine under the Sun, add to the panoramic beauty of the College campus.

A team of freedom fighters and social workers established the college for the spread of higher education in this area. In this connection the bounteous contribution of Late Biju Pattnaik, Ex.Chief Minister & Sri Bhabani Ch. Pattnaik, eminent freedom fighter & Ex. M.P is remarkable. Sri Bhabani Ch. Pattnaik is also continuing in the management of the college since its inception.

The College has assumed the status of a fully fledged under graduate degree college in the year 1965 having honours teaching provision . At Present the student strength has gone upto6000 with Hons. teaching provision in English, History, Pol.Sc, Economics, Odia, Psychology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Education, Sanskrit and Commerce and Post Graduate study in Geology.Commerce & Odia Affiliated to Utkal University, it is a premier govt. aided college, providing higher education to rural poors.

With a team of highly qualified teachers and experienced non-teaching staff, the college forges ahead to achieve the height in different stages. Our students of Degree courses have fared exceedingly well in the University Examinations and some students have brought laurels in academics and other spheres. Our Mathematics students are regularly selected to participate in the interactive programmes sponsored by institute of mathematics. They have also been selected in different mathematics Olympiad tests.

The NCC Units of the college has brought glory to this institutions. Two cadets of our NCC Unit were felicitated at Independence day Parade 2005 at Puri. Our NCC candidates have rendered substantial help to the State administration for smooth conduct of general election 1999. Due to timely counselling of our NCC officers, five cadets have joined the armed forces in 2004-05. One cadet has received Chief Minister’s award outstanding services rendered during Car festival of 2003. Senior under officer A. Harichandan has received Defence Sec. Commendation card in the year 2003. He has also received Governor’s cash award for his service. Ex- ANO. Maj A. N. Sahu received DG police odisha commendation card for his outstanding contribution during Car festival. In recognition to the commendable achievement of our NCC unit the DG NCC has been pleased to introduce composite Girls unit in the college w.e.f. 2004.

The NSS units of the college with its two units for men & one for Women have been rendering substantial service since its inception in 1973. At the time of natural calamities like flood & cyclone, our volunteers have reached the marooned people and have taken active part in rescue operation. We have conducted relief operation work during high floods and cyclone. The NSS unit have organised massive plantation programme, organised health awareness camp, conducted blood donation and Eye Camp where in rural poor had opportunity of having cataract operation free of cost. A workshop on Youth Gender and society was held in the College premises in collaboration with task force on women of violence, BBSR ,.Nahantra, Barimula and Kanapur three remote villages under Nimapara Block have been adopted by our NSS Units for extension of NSS activities. VillageNidhana has come to lime light due to August visit of Madam NazmaHepatullah Ex. VC Rajya sabha. A water and sanitation project is implemented in the said village. For such outstanding achievement Indira Gandhi NSS award 2002-03 has been given to Sri N. B Khuntia, programme officer in coordination with Sr. P. C. Dash Ex. Principal Nimapara college by Minister of Youth affairs and sports Govt. of India.

Our teachers have participated as resource persons in different refresher courses organised by Utkal University and our science teachers also have attended as guests of honour in different science exhibition organised in peripheral high schools . In order to update their knowledge the teachers have participated in different refresher/orientation courses.

2. Academic Attainment of Staff:
The college has a team of excellent and learned teachers numbering 87 out of which 25 of them are Ph.D. Degree holders and 36 of them are with M. Phil Degree with U.G.C. assistance some of them are engaged in major and minor Resource projects.

3. Physical facilities:

Spread over in a sprawling campus of 16 acres of land the college possess a magnificent central library with a huge conference Hall in 2^nd floor and a well equipped reading room for the students at ground floor,Fourteen spacious lecture theatres, each with accommodation of 128 students, administrative block, Watchman Room, Girls Common Room, Post Office, Bank Extension Counter, Special Information Bureau, Grievance Cell for gents and ladies, Staff Quarters, Principal Residence Quarter, Ladies Hostel, SCST Hostel and a sprawling Playground etc.

4. Financial Resource:
As the salary of the approved staff is borne by the Govt. of Odisha in the format of GIA, the entire fund, income from self financing course like IFF, Computer course and donations MP and M.L.A LAD Fund constitute the major source of income of this institution.

5. IMPLEMENTATION OF AUTONOMY:
The UGC has accorded autonomous status to the college during the year 2010-11 and the governing body of the college has been approved under the presidency of Sri Sameer Ranjan Dash, eminent social worker and Honorable Minister School & Mass Education Odisha.

i. We have conducted National Seminars on the theme redesigning of the courses for Autonomous colleges during the year 2011-12 and on importance of moral education on Higher education in July 2013.

ii. Honourable speaker Sj. Pdadeepta Ku. Amat , Hon’ble Minister Agriculture Devi Prasad Mishra and Hon’ble Minister Higher Education Sj. Badri Narayan Patra, Vice Canceller of Utkal University Dr. P.K. Sahoo, the then Director Higher Education Satyakam Mishra, Hon’ble MLA NimaparaSj. Sameer Ranjan Dash, Freedom fighter Ex MP Sj. BhabaniCharanPattanik and Export committee of UGC have graced the institutions as revered guests on several occasions. The college is dedicated to promote Higher Education and we rededicated ourselves to make it a choices centre of learning.
