Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

Aims and Objectives of the Organization:
The Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Department was carved out from the Industries Department in December 2011 to promote the MSME sector which contributes significantly to value addition, employment generation, exports, and overall growth and development of the state in particular and the country’s economy as a whole. In the state of Odisha itself, the MSME units are generating maximum employment next to agriculture. On the other hand, the MSME sector is responsible for about 40 percent of the exports and 45 percent of the total manufacturing output in the country. Realizing the significance of MSMEs in overall development, this Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has been created with the State Government initiative to rejuvenate, give topmost priority and thrust in facilitating and co-coordinating the inclusive growth and development of the MSME sector inside and outside of the state of Odisha.
Mission/ Vision:
For industrial development and to cater to the manpower requirements of the industries in the State, the MSME Department has Directorates and several Corporations mainly discharging the activities with broad objectives of promoting and facilitating the industries in the State and enabling the rural poor to get technical training facilities for a better job.
Brief History & Context of its Formation:
It started functioning as an independent Department of the State Government formation.
Main Activities/ Functions:
The functions of this Department are based on the Odisha Government Rules of Business including instructions of the G.A. Department delineated from time to time.
