Particulars of Organization, Functions and Duties

1. Aim and Objectives of the Organisation:
After construction of Hirakud Multipurpose dam Project, Barpali Canal Division is looking after the operation & maintenance of Bargarh Main Canal and its distribution system covering an ayacut of 58236.258 Ha. Since the inception of the project and provision of irrigation system the bumper cropping has changed the socio economic condition of the people diametrically and the area is popularly called the Rice Bowel of Odisha.
2. Brief History and background for its Establishment:
Barpali Canal Division is newly created division after restructuring of Water Resources Department. This division in bifurcated from Canal Division, Bargarh vide letter no. FE-III-NG-R&R-2/12-5417 dated 27.02.2012 OF Water Resources Department. The headquarter of the division is at Barpali. This Division is maintaining the Bargarh Main Canal from RD 47.396 Km to Tail along with its offtaking. The C.C.A of the Division is 58236.258 Ha. The maintenance works is carried out by two Sub-Divisional Officers. They are S.D.O, Barpali Canal Sub-Division & S.D.O, Rampur Canal Sub-Division.
3. Allocation of Business:
This division headed with an Executive Engineer is segmented within two Nos. of sub-divisions under the control of four Sub-Divisional Officers one for each sub-division and have been allocated with the work as follows.
(i) Canal Sub-Division, Barpali:
This sub-division headed by a Sub-Divisional Officer is in charge of the maintenance of irrigation from RD 47.396 km to 69.646 km of Bargarh Main Canal with its distribution system for an ayacut of 28844.055 Ha. CCA. This work has been entrusted among four nos. of Sectional Officers.
(ii) Canal Sub-Division, Rampur:
This sub-division headed by a Sub-Divisional Officer is in charge of maintenance of irrigation from RD 69.646 km to Tail of Bargarh Main Canal with its distribution system for an ayacut of 29,392. Ha. CCA. The above works have been entrusted among 5 nos. of. Sectional Officers.
4. Duties tobe performed to achieve the Mission:
This division along with the sub-divisions are doing their assigned jobs i.e. maintenance and provision of irrigation to the ayacut areas and achieves their targets.
5. Citizens Interaction:
Complains, views, suggestion and demand of the citizens are given utmost care and sincere efforts and being given to attend their needs within the frame work of prevailing rules and regulations.
