Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]

1) Objective/ Purpose of the Public Authority:

To act as the middle tier in established 3 tier PRIs as institutions of self government.

2) Mission and vision statement of the Public Authority:

i) To enable PRIs to plan and implement the schemes for economic development of the poverty-stricken people living in block area.
ii) To ensure through PRIs, the prosperity and quality life in its territory.

3) Brief history of the authority and contents of its formation:

     Koraput Block has started functioning as pre extension stage from 1.10.1961 to 30.9.1962. This Block entered into CD Stage-I from 1.10.1962 to 30.6.1972 and CD Stage- II from 1.7.1972 and TD Stage- I is continuing from 1.4.1970. Out of 14 Block in the Dist of Koraput this Block is located centrally and stretched over an area of 932.32 Sq. Km covering l6 G.Ps, and 94 Revenue Villages. The total population of the Block is 65015 as per 2001 census out of which SC population is 6922, ST population in is 30910 and others 27183.

4) Duties of the Public authority:

     To monitor the utilization of funds received by it and by the Gram Panchayats to carry out development works and poverty amelioration programme.

5) Main activities and functions of the public authority:

i) To monitor the functioning of Gram Panchayat within the framework of powers and authorities entrusted in a 3 tier PRIs system.
ii) To supervise and monitor the utilization of funds received by the Gram Panchayats for implementation of Wage employment and Self employment programme and to utilize the funds received by it for such programme.
