Organisation - Directorate of Economics & Statistics , Odisha , Bhubaneswar.

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DE&S) erstwhile known as Bureau of Statistics and Economics , was declared as Head of Department in the year 1958 and continued to function under the administrative control of Planning and Convergence Department (P&C). It was renamed as Directorate of Economics and Statistics, in the year 1987. The Planning and Convergence Department is headed by Development Commissioner of Odisha. The Directorate of Economics and Statistics is headed by the Director, with supporting officers in Class I and Class-II ranks from Odisha Statistics and Economic Services (OSE&S) cadre and other technical and ministerial staff at the State Headquarters, Range Level and District Level Statistical Offices. The District Offices of all the 30 districts are District Planning and Monitoring Unit (DPMU) headed by Deputy Director (Planning & Statistics) and working under technical guidance of this Directorate The organisation acts a nodal agency of Statistical data in respect of many socio-economic functions of the state government.

Functions :

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics being the Nodal Statistical Organisation in the State is responsible for collection, compilation, analysis and publication of data on diverse socio-economic activities of the State. While the DE&S collects data directly through its own functionaries, substantial statistical information is mobilized with the help of other line departments. The functions of DE&S can broadly be classified as follows

Collection, compilation, processing , analysis and dissemination of various types of statistical data relating to socio-economic and agricultural activities in the State.
Improvement of quality , scope and usefulness of the statistical data available in the State
Liaison between Central Statistical Officeand other Nodal Agencies of Govt. of India as well as Govt. of Odisha.
Dissemination of statistical data through periodical reports publications and correspondences. Collection of official statistics as by products of administration
Training of statistical personnel at the state/district and field level on implementation of different statistical activities of DE&S.
Providing Statistical and economic advice to different departments of Government and to the Heads of Departments as and when required.

Duties -

Collection of data through well designed sample survey on socio-economic matters and formulating estimates of different parameters.
Research and analytical studies relating to economic, social and financial matters in the State and making rational evaluation of progress achieved in the Sectors.
Any other adhoc works assigned by Government from time to time.

The working hours for office and public are from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. on every working days of State Govt.

Public interact with Public Information Cell on RTI matter, purchase various Statistical Publications from Sale counter of Publication Division and they avail library facilities of DE & S.

Grievance Redress Mechanism:

It is functioning on the Directorate on every working Saturday at 3 PM to 5 PM.
