This Office comes under the Department of Home, Govt. of Odisha.
The Main objective of this department is that it maintains liaison with Defence Services for Military and Civil co-operation and for setting up defence projects in the State.

1. Objectives of the Public Authority:
The 1st IR Bn., Koraput is a part of Odisha Police, engaged in maintaining law & order and to counter ongoing Naxal menace.

2. Mission/Vision statement of the Public Authority :
To maintain Law & order as per the directives of State Police Hdqrs, Cuttack & to counter ongoing naxal menace being positioned strategically at different Anti Naxal Police Posts.

3. Brief History of the public authority and context of its formation:
Raising of one IRBn in the state, that subsequently became 1st IRBn & creation of posts thereof has been amply detailed in MHA, New Delhi Letter No.11-27011/99/2000-PF-11 Dt.24.11.2000 addressed to the Chief Secy. Odisha, BBSR & HDO Letter No. 2463/D&A Dt. 11.1.2002 addressed to the DGP 'O' CTC. Basing on the above letters the 1st IRBn in the state was raised with it's Hqrs at  KPT District with creation of 966 posts of different categories under administrative control of the Public Authority i.e. Commandant, 1st IRBn, KPT given with the commensurate standard, pattern, authorization of transport & wireless equipments, Arms & Ammunition etc. The training of IRBn is based on the model training syllabus in order to make the IRBn operationally effective as & when deployed outside the parent state. The Govt. of India is empowered to exercise the right of first call on the IRBn. Since the battalion may be required to serve anywhere in the country the state Govt would, at the time of recruitment & training take care to ensure that the Bn. has a cosmopolitan character & suitable orientation. In practice an IRBn normally consists of  Seven Companies out of which six Companies should be redeployable. The structure of the Bn. also include Medical, Wireless & Ministerial components. The structure of a Company is akin to a Company of state armed police with appropriate modification.

4. Duties of the Public Authority:

The Head Office is designated as Commandant who is the Public Authority as per R.T.I Act, 2005. Deployment of force as per the direction of State Police Hdqrs, is the major task of the Public Authority. Besides internal administration of the Battalion/ management of force are also coming under the purview of the Public Authority.

5. Main activities /functions of the Public Authority:
Deployment of force is the main function of the Public Authority.

6. List of services being provided by the public Authority with a brief write-up on them:
Deputation of force for enforcing law & order and to counter ongoing Naxal menace.

7. Organizational Structure Diagram at various levels namely State, Directorate, region, district, block etc.(whichever is applicable):
It is a single unit office with Commandant as the Head of Office and also the Public Authority. Apart from this three Dy. Commandants, 07 Asst. Commandants & other subordinate officers/men are working in this unit with a total strength of 1018.

8. Expectation of the public Authority from the public for enhancing its effectiveness and efficiency :
This unit to a great extent is not a public concerned Office directly.

9. Mechanism available for monitoring the service delivery and public grievance resolution:
Public grievance is being heard on every Saturday pm except Govt. Holidays from 10.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M.
