1. A Blend of Tradition and Modernity:

Odisha Situated on the coast along the Bay of Bengal, it offers an excellent blend of its ancient glory and modern Endeavour. The state with a rich heritage that is more than two thousand years old, has a glorious history of its own. It was known under different names in different periods : Kalinga, Utkala or Odradesh. Seaports flourished along the coast as early as the 4th and 5th centuries B.C, when the sadhabs, the Odishan seafaring merchants, went to the islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Bali with their merchandise. Not only did they bring home wealth and prosperity, they also carried the glorious Indian civilisation with them. The land had its martial glory in the past and the people had made their contact with kingdoms in South East Asia in ancient times. Kalinga had made its mark in the Indian history when the Nanda dynasty ruled the kingdom of Magadha. It posed a threat to the Mauryan Empire. Ashoka the Great invaded Kalinga in 261 B.C. and conquered her. But the terrible bloodshed on the banks of the river, Daya that preceded Ashoka's victory changed his heart. He embraced Buddhism and preached peace and goodwill for the rest of his life.

The village Muktapur, the Land of a Paik Dalabehera is one of the big rural pocket under Millipur Gram Panhayat of Khordha Block surrounded by forest growth belongs to 20.15'.22.63"- 20.15'.18.94."- N Latitude and 85.34'58.92" -85.35'3.35" E Longitude

Tarakai part of the Chandaka Elephant Sanctuary is situated  in the North East side, Village Nuapada  in the South East side,Village Baghei Tangi is situated in the Noirth West side and Village Kerang is situated in the south side of this village Muktapur.

2. Laterite and lateritic soils

The soils Muktapur and the adjacent villages is Laterite and lateritic soils contain lateritic mass within control section of the profile. The lateritic mass is characterized by compact to vesicular sometimes honey-combed structure, composed  essentially of a mixture of hydrated oxides of iron and aluminium with small amount of manganese and titanium oxides and quartz as a necessary diluent. These soils are highly permeable and are poor in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassiumand calcium. They are generally acidic in nature.

Red and laterite soils are deficient in molybdenum. Boron deficiency is found in highly porous upland lateritic soils particularly in the surface due to heavy leaching. Application of 10 kg borax/ha or spray application of 0.1 to 0.2 per cent solution helped in correcting the deficiency. Bronzing in rice which is associated with higher iron concentration in the soil is observed mainly in the kharif season. It occurs in poorly drained acid soils especially those situated adjacent to ferruginous lateritic highlands. Bronzing is manifested due to presence of high amount of easily decomposable organic matter, application of sulfur containing fertilizers, insufficient supply of phosphorus and potassium excess iron and low manganese in the soils.
