Introduction

O/o the Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Resource Survey Division, Cuttack is located at Forest Resource Survey Division, Cuttack, Odisha.

This office comes under the Department of Forest & Environment, Govt. of Odisha.

The main function of this institution is to investigating the physical and economic availability of raw materials within selected industrial catchments. Forest resources survey division is authorized to lay out and demarcate survey lines, post temporary pillars and lay out plots for survey purpose.

Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]

1. Aim & objectives of the organization:

The office of Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Resources Survey Division, Odisha, Cuttack is located at Silver city Cuttack and is nearly 30 kms from State Capital Bhubaneswar. It is also well communicated with East Coast Railway and National High way No.5. The location of F.R.S Division at Cuttack is justified as it was old capital of the State.

This office deals with survey of Forest resources, aims at investigating the physical and economic availability of raw materials within selected industrial catchments. Forest resources survey division is authorized to lay out and demarcate survey lines, post temporary pillars and lay out plots for survey purpose.

Apart from the above, after reorganization of Forest Department w.e.f. 01.10.2003 the N.T.F.P Sale units of defunct Forest Utilization Division have been merged with this Division. Presently this division also deals with sale of N.T.F.P to public through its sale counter.

2. Mission / Vision:

The mission of the Division is to chalk out program for survey of forest resources of the state.

3. Brief history & background for its establishment:

This organization was established in the year 1953 at Cuttack, aiming at utilization of Minor Forest Produce and supply of Railway Sleepers to Railway Department, preparation of working Plan, scientific management of forest and Survey of different forest blocks.

4. Allocation of Business:

Collection of Minor Forest Produce such as Black Peper, Honey, Resin, Coffee Seeds, Dalchin bark, Sandal wood from different divisions of the State. Subsequently these were sold out to the public through Department Sale counter at Govt. rate.

5. Duties to be Performed to Achieve the Mission:

Sample Survey of different forest produce both major and minor are taken up in various Forest Divisions to access the forest resource of the state which helps to chalk out planning management and conservation of the forest wealth.

6. Details of Service Rendered:

All the officers are supervising the timely execution of Forest Resources Survey activities being carried out in the State, as assigned by the Heads of Department.

Every Monday of each week, Grievance petition are received and disposed off at the earliest as per merit.
