Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. History & Background of the Institution:

Rama Chandra Mardaraj Science College, Khallikote is a premier Educational Institution of South Odisha established in the year 1964 as a private college under the Khallikote College Trust Managing Committee, Berhampur. The Trust was managing three colleges i.e. Khallikote Autonomous College, Berhampur, Rama Chandra Mardaraj Science College, Khallikote and Science College, Hinjilicut under the Presidentship of Late Purna Chandra Mardaraj, Raja Saheba of Khallikote and subsequently by Smt.V. Suganan Kumari Deo the Rani Saheba of Khallikote. After the taken over of Khallikote Autonomous College, Berhampur in the year 1971.The other two colleges are managed by the Trust.  Khallikote is situated near Chilika Lake and surrounded by green mountain peaks. The first inspection commission for the establishment of a college visited Khallikote on 5th April 1964 and recommended for opening of college. Initially the college started in the Dewan Bungalow from 1st July 1964 and later it was shifted to the present building at Nirmaljhar in 1968. The college was named after the benevolent Rajbahadur Rama Chandra Mardaraj Deo. The twelve acres and sixty sent of land was donated by Late Raja Mata Chandrapriya Devi. In the beginning the college was affiliated to Utkal University in pre University Science. After the establishment of Berhampur University in the year 1966 the college was re-affiliated to it., later on this college has become a full-fledged degree college in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with Honours facilities in all the Arts, Science and Commerce subjects. In the event of the establishment of Council of Higher Secondary Education in the year 1983 the Higher Secondary wing was affiliated to the CHSE, Odisha. The Vocational stream in +2 has been introduced in the college since 2002 by the Government and it is called as Government Junior Vocational College to provide teaching facilities in two trades such as Tourism Travel and Technique and Medical Laboratory Technician

     The College was accredited in the year 2005.The Peer team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council visited the college in Devember.2005 and awarded B grade by the NAAC.

 2. Goals and Objectives of the Institution:

"Ora Disce Prospra" (Study & Prosper) is the motto of the Rama Chandra Mardaraj Science College, which is represented at the bottom In the Centre of the shield there is an open book with word 'Luxex Altissimo' which means Light Exalted .On the top of the book there is the light with race that enlightens. the lamp and the book are the traditional symbols of learning and wisdom, below the book the letters" R.C.M.Sc" signify the name of the college .the wings above the shield are the symbols of elevation. The symbol of letters 'B' & 'U' crossing each other stand of Berhampur University which the college draws hope and inspiration. Briefly he crest as whole signifies Light, Life & Hope for all round elevation and prosperity.                    
3. There are 11 departments with 01 Self-Financing in +2 Science and UGC programmers going  on  in the institution with a purpose of making education more socially and economically relevant and  job-oriented. 

4. Infrastructure of the College:

Total Land Area of the College 13 Acre Build up area: 05 Acre. (App).

5. Faculty Strength:

The College has 27 well-qualified faculty members including 6 Readers and 2 Senior Lecturers and 19 Lecturers.  In addition there are 10 laboratory, library and administrative staff.

6. College Library:

The College library has total 30,000 nos.  of  books  and  subscribes  to  41  magazines  & Journals  and  8  dailies. The Library automation has been made and the first round of task is over. Steps are being taken to complete the automation of the Library.  Internet facilities are extended to all UG Departments and 2 Self-financing Courses. There is reprographic, computers, Audio & Video Cassettes & Internet facility in the Library.

     Decisions are taken as per Govt. Rules, regulations & procedures from time to time. The Principal  takes  decision  in  consulting  with  the President Governing Body, Staff  Council  and  other subcommittee for the development of the College.
