Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (I)]

1. Aim and objectives if the Organisation:

Kausalyagnga Fish farm is a state Government organisation functioning under the fisheries & Animal Resources development of the state Govt. of Odisha. It is located one Km. away from Uttara Chhak on the right side of Bhubaneswar Puri road i.e. N.H.203 close to CIFA. This farm comes under Pipili Tahasil of Puri District in the state of Odisha. In the recent years Kausalyaganga Fish farm has emerged as one of the largest fish seed producing centre of the state Fisheries Department. Apart from the fish farms of the undevided puri district, it supplies quality fish seeds i.e. Spawn, Fry and fingerlings etc. to the fish farmers of the different corners of the state. Further more, the new research oriented programmes are also experimented here with a view to demonstrate to the fish farmers & also for its extension this farms also earn some revenue out of the sale of the fish, quality fish seed etc. It acts as practical demonstration on field training programme for fish farmers, fisheries officers and Fisheries science students of Odisha and also of other States of our Country. Recently in diversification of species programme, action is being taken for construction of one Magur hatchery (clarious batrachus) for production of Magur seed in order to provided the same, to the Fish farmers as per Govt. rate. In research programme the brood stock upgradition activities is going to be implemented. Further more action in being taken for production of medium carp seeds in diversification of species programme and the seeds of which are to be supplied to the pisciculturists for the same as per Govt. rate to enhance fish production.

2. Brief History of the Public Authority & Context of its Formation:

Kausalyaganga fish farm was a big single water body during Ganga Dynasty, which was meant to supply water for agricultural purpose. In early fifties the swampy area was taken over by the state Fisheries department and converted in to a Fish farm with a reclamation cost of 5.75 lakhs for pisciculture purpose. During the year 1970-72 some of the stocking ponds were converted to Nursery, rearing and Breeding Tanks for the purpose of supplying quality fish seeds to the fish farmers of thestate with an investment of Rs. 11.64 lakhs through the erstx while R.E.O Deptt.

3. Details of Services Rendered :

The Fishery department is rendering services for bringing sensitization and awareness among the people to adapt modern scientific Pisciculture as sustainable source of income, make availability of fish protein to the fish leaves, provide quality seeds to the fish farmers to boost up fish production in the state, resulting upliftment of their socio economic condition and to generate additional revenue to the Govt. in the form of lease value and royality through utilisation of water bodies in the state.
