Introduction

District Institute of Education and Training, Dhenkanal (DIET, Dhenkanal) was established in the year 1988 as per adoption of NPE 1986 to train the Primary Teachers. It serves for the qualitatives improvement of Primary Education. In the year 1988, the S.T.S. (W) Dhenkanal was renamed as the DIET, Dhenkanal. Area of this DIET, Dhenkanal is 3.652 Acres.

Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

  1. Objective/purpose of the public authority:

DIETs are established to improve the quality of elementary education by focusing on teacher training and academic support at the district level.So, the objective of the public authority is to provide pre-service and in-service training to elementary school teachers, conduct research, and provide academic support to elementary education in Dhenkanal district.

To foster professional development among elementary educators and enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Dhenkanal through continuous training, research, and innovative pedagogical practices.

  1. Brief history of the public authority and context of its formation:


DIET Dhenkanal was established as part of the nationwide initiative to decentralize teacher education and provide localized support for elementary education, following the recommendations of educational policies aimed at improving foundational learning.

To conduct pre-service teacher training (D.El.Ed)
To organize in-service training programs for elementary teachers
To develope teaching-learning materials
To conduct action research & other educational researches
To provide academic guidance to schools.
To conduct Survey like PARAKH, SLAS, ASER Etc

Training programs, educational research, supervision , monitoring and mentoring of elementary education practices, and community engagement for educational awareness.

Pre-service Teacher Education: Offers Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) to prepare future elementary teachers.
In-service Teacher Training: Conducts regular workshops and training sessions for serving elementary teachers to update their skills and knowledge.
Academic Support: Provides guidance and resources to elementary schools on curriculum implementation, assessment, and pedagogical issues.
Research & Innovation: Undertakes action research to address local educational challenges and promote innovative teaching methods.
Educational technology & Material development: prepare e contents on elementary level subjects, prepare different awareness leaflets.

DIET Dhenkanal functions under the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) at the state level and the Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha. Within the district, it coordinates with Block Education Officers (BEOs) and school clusters.
