  1. Aims & Objectives:

THE ORGANISATION

The Constitution of India stands for equality freedom, Justice and dignity for all individuals. But practically it was not the Scenario for the persons with disabilities. It has been realized that a majority of persons with disabilities can lead a better quality of life, if they get equal opportunities and effective access to rehabilitation measures.

The establishment of Regional Spinal Injury Centre at Cuttack is one of the institution to provide rehabilitation measures to persons with disabilities specially spinal injured persons and the persons with orthopedic and Neurological problems.

History of the Organisation : 

As per the provision of PWD Act-95 many institutions/organizations have been set-up by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India during last five year plan.

In addition to the previous institution/organization. Five composite Rehabilitation Centres (CRC), Four Regional Rehabilitation Centres (RRC) and 120 District Disability Rehabilitation Centre(DDRC) have been established during 2001-2006 by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt, of India. There are also several national institutions under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt, of India.

Four Regional Rehabilitation Centre were subsequently renamed as Regional Spinal Injury Centre(RSIC) set-up at the following places.

  1. RSIC, Cuttack, Odisha
  2. RSIC, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
  3. RSIC, Mohali, Panjab
  4. RSIC, Barrely, Uttar Pradesh

These organizations have been established with a principle that Govt, of India will provide all recurring expenditure for five years and after that the concerned state Govt, will maintain the Organisation.

Accordingly Regional Spinal Injury Centre, Cuttack has been functioning inside the

S.C.B. Medical College Campus since 26.02.2001. It is an autonomous organization under the administrative and Financial control of Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, Govt, of Odisha.

Medical consultation for spinal injury and Spine related disorders, Orthopaedic & Neurological disorders.

Management of spinal injury patients along with neurological deficit.

Physiotherapy services with sophisticated Electro Medical Equipments

Regular Physiotherapy services to Medical Equipments Indoor patients.

Occupational therapy services for Neurology/ Orthopedic/Pediatric Cases

Regular Occupational therapy services to indoor patients

Modern Orthotic workshop for Manufacturing Aids & Appliances

Aids & Appliances, Rehabilitative Aids for Indoor patients

Continued Rehabilitation Education(CRE) for NGO/Medical/Para Medical Personnel

Nursing Services to indoor cases with special care & Dressing of Bed Sores

Awareness programme for General Public

Counseling to spinal injury patients and their attendants for vocational rehabilitation and guidance

Sharing of information in the field of disability

Community based rehabilitation(CBR) Programme for discharged patients at door step.
