Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]

1. Aim and Objectives of the Organization:

    The Sarva Siksha Abhiyan aims at providing Universal Elementary Education to all children in the age group of 6 to 14 by 2010. The other goal of this programme is to bridge Social, Regional and Gender Gaps in Education, with the Active Participation of the community in the Management of Educational Institutions. Following are the main objectives of SSA:

a) All children in schools, Education Guarantee Centers, Alternate School, Back to School camps by 2003.
b) All children should complete five years of Primary Schooling by 2007.
c) All children will complete eight years of Elementary Schooling by 2010.
d) Focus on Elementary Education of Quality with emphasis on Education for life.
e) Bridge all Gender and Social category gaps at Primary stage by 2007 and at Elementary Education level by 2010.
f) Universal Retention by 2010.

    Considering the Colossal Dimensions of the Project & the Financial Implications involved it is necessary to prepare a plan with details of the activities pertaining to the total School Improvement, Pedagogical Improvement, Strategies on Improvement of School Curriculum, Utilization of existing resources, Creating Infrastructure etc. Thus to ensure a comprehensive preview of all aspects & components of the project, preparation of plan is extremely important.

    In Rayagada District, SSA has started its functioning from the year 2001-02 & completed its 3rd year of functioning. During this period it has taken an attempt to enroll all the children in the age group of 6-14 in the schools, with community participations. Efforts have also been taken to provide primary schooling facilities within a radius of 1 K.M & upper primary schooling facilities within a radius of 3 K.M as per SSA norm. Attempts have been taken to provide infrastructure in shape of school buildings, drinking water facility, and toilets on priority basis.

2. Mission/ Vision:

    To provide Access, Retention and Quality education to all the children in the age group of 0-14 years by the year 2010.

3. Brief History and Background for its Establishment:

    SSA, Rayagada started its work in the year April 2002. Its started work within the general framework of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan formulated by Central Government.   

4. Allocation of Business:

To organizing Primary and Elementary Education.

5. Duties to be performed to achieve the Mission:

a) To create Friendly and Pleasurable Atmosphere at schools.
b) To provides Infrastructures to Schools.
c) Impart Training to Teachers.
d) Develop Quality Education Methods.
e) Provide Educational Tools and Equipments to Schools.
f) Create Community Awareness and Pressure for Universal Enrolment and Retention.
