Objective purpose of Public Authority:
Directorate of Industries, Odisha looks after promotion & facilitates the growth of MSME / Large Industries in the state of Odisha.
Mission / Vision Statement of the Public Authority
For making Odisha as number one Industrial state in the industries map of the country. Which will contribute economic development and generate employment for the people of the state.
Brief History of the Public Authority:
Industrial Development in Odisha was looked after by Directorate of Development, which was also taking care of the activities of other sectors like Agriculture, Fisheries, Irrigation & Endowment. In 1946 Directorate of Industries had been created to exclusively look after the Industrial Development of the State. Subsequently, in 1956 (2nd Five year Plan), 8 District Industries Offices (DIO) had been created namely in Ganjam, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur & Bolangir. From 1960, DIO offices were established in all the erstwhile 13 Districts. DIC pattern was introduced since 1979-80 and 4 Project Offices were added namely in Jagatpur, Rourkela, Bhubaneswar & Rayagada to strengthen Industrial Activities. After creation of 30 districts, 14 new DICs were created. At present 5 existing Level-I DICs namely; Kalinganagar(Jajpur), Dhenkanal, Rourkela, Rayagada and Sambalpur have been up-graded to Regional Industries Centre (RIC) headed by General Manager in the rank of Joint Director of Industries (Level-II).
