Our Mission is to achieve academic excellence and to make this premier institution a centre for Promoting Social Development through mutual co-operation.

Objectives:

i) To promote quality learning and creativity among students and teachers.
ii)
To inculcate love for learning among the students.
iii)
To train the students to face the challenges of the new millennium.

4. Brief History of the College:

The government College, Rourkela was previously known as Rourkela Science College. This College was inaugurated by Ex-Chief Minister, late Biju Pattnaik on 16th August, 1961. Credit goes to Steel Authority of India LTD. (SAIL) for the initial development of the college. It was shifted to its present building at Panposh on 16th April, 1980. The college was conferred with Autonomous Status in 2002. In the year 2002 the college was also accredited with Grade- B by NAAC.

The College offers Arts, Science and Commerce at Higher Secondary and degree levels.

The college also offers M.A. in English, Odia and M.Sc. in Botany. The college also offers a variety of Self Financing Degree Courses in Computer Science, Electronics and Tele Communication, Mathematics with Computer, PGDCA, PGDCH & NET and Master Degree in Computer Science.

The college has also provided facilities for IGNOU Learners Centre.

As per the circular of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha, the college now stands bifurcated into the Government Junior College, Rourkela for +2 stream and Government Autonomous College, Rourkela for +3 Stream and P.G. with effect from the academic session, 2001-02.

At present the college has been the torch bearer in the field of higher education and scaled great heights in excellence.

College Crest:

The college Crest contains the name of the college, the view of blast furnace, rocket, a book and lamp. The view of the furnace suggestive of Rourkela Steel Plant symbolizes science in the service of mankind and characterizes this college as a seat of learning for scientific and technical advancement of the book with the lamp by its side stands for study and research.

The motto in Sanskrit signifies non-dichotomy of the inner self and its application to the practical world. The Knowledge gained by the students in this institution is to be utilized in building up of a brighter world.

5. Working Hours:

Every working day- 06 (six) hours
Government Junior College (+2)- 7.00 A.M. to 12.00 P.M.
Government Autonomous College (+3)-11.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. 

Government Autonomous College (PG)- 01.00 P.M to 5.00 P.M.

Office work- 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M.
