Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aim and Objectives of the Organizations:

To conserve the biodiversity. The Objective of this Division is to ensure the survival and maintenance of Tiger population and its, co predator pray base. Addressing the concerned about local people’s livelihood in Tiger reserve.

2. Mission/ Vision: This Division is mandated to manage, conserve and protect forest and wildlife resources through forest protection as well as socio-economic up-liftment of people in the forest fringe areas and sustainable management of forests and wildlife.

3. Brief History and Background for its Establishment:

This Mahanadi Wildlife Division has been created vide Government Resolution NO.13060/F&E dated 12.07.1999 of Forest and Environment Department with divisional headquarters at Phulbani. This Division was shifted from Phulbani to Kuanria vide letter No. 2221/F & E dated 05.02.2003 of Forest and Environment Department, Odisha. Then shifted from Kuanria to Nayagarh vide letter No.17157/F & E dated 22.10.2003 of Forest and Environment Department, Government of Odisha. The Division is located between 20° 23.8' to 20° 36.8' N Latitude and 84° 35.4' to 84° 58.5' E Longitude. The total geographical area of Mahanadi Wildlife Division is 433.86 Sq. Kms. The whole of Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary being 168.35 Sq. Km. and part of Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary of 265.51 Sq. Km. situated south of river Mahanadi. Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the southern side of Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary which has been constituted by the Government of Odisha vide Notification No. 8F (W)-115/ 81-25335 dated 16.05.1981 of F.F & A.H. Department. The total area of this division has been declared as Satkosia Tiger Reserve.
