Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aim and objectives of the organization:
The Sambalpuri Bastralaya was registered as a Handloom Cooperative Society under O.C.S. Act & Rules during the year 1954. Padmashree Dr.Krutartha Acharya is the founder of the society. It started its business with effect from dt.1.7.1954. It is the largest Primary W.C.S. in the state & primarily based in the Western part of Odisha. It plays an important role in the socio-economic development of weavers of Western Odisha. It provides large-scale rural employment to SC, ST and economically back-ward classes of the society including women. It has earned national and international reputation because of the high business ethics of its founder. Since its inception, it has been working as a production cum sale society by regularly supplying inputs, providing technical know-how as well as marketing supports under a cooperative frame work.
2. Mission & vision:
i. It is the largest Primary W.C.S. in the state. It is primarily based in Western part of Odisha and has got a tremendous weaving potentiality. It plays an important role in the Socio-economic development of weavers of Western Odisha. It provides large scale rural based employment for SC,ST,SEBC including women
ii. Both Production & Marketing of cloth are being undertaken by the society. It has a total of 6141 own members in 43 production centres. At present 3450 skilled weaver members are directly engaged in production of clothes. Besides, 25 primary WCS out of 90 associated societies & production agents are undertaking production as per the demand of the society. It has also one own Dyeing Unit to dyed yarn. The society has also one no. of Cabinet Dyeing Machine with a capacity of 25kg and 2 nos. of Cabinet Dyeing Machines of 100kgs capacity provided by Govt. under POHI Scheme. Besides One Effluent Treatment Plant has been installed in the dyeing unit by the NITRA in 2002-03 by availing central assistance of Rs.10.00 lakh to convert the waste dye liquor into fresh water.
iii. Because of its strong infrastructure network, it functions like an Apex body within the cooperative frame work of the state. The production of the society is about one-fourth of the entire state.
