Particulars of Organizations, Functions and Duties

Objectives / Purpose of the public Authority: -

   Forest and Environment Department is the administrative Department of Government for conservation and  sustainable management of forests and wild life, afforestation and regeneration of degraded forest land, control and abatement of pollution and administration of environmental laws and promotion of environmental awareness among the public.

Mission/ vision statement of the public authority: -

   Forest have an important  role in the economy of the state, particularly amongst rural SC & ST masses.  Forestry activities contribute a lot for their food, security and day to day  livelihood. The vision is to create a proper space for wild life in overall schemes of things within the civil society and governance of the state.

Brief History: -

   The forest and Environment Department in the state operates  through a number of departmental formations and autonomous bodies. The field   formations under the forestry set up is organized under the Forests, Wild life and Kendu leaf wings. The Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) Ltd.  Acts as the commercial wing of the Department and discharges the function of  disposing of various forests produce like kenduleaf, salvaged timber, bamboo and  sal seed etc. It also supplies timber, bamboo and firewood to the public through  171 depots run by it.

Duties of the public Authority: -

   Forest and Environment Department supervise  all the field organizations like PCCF, Odisha, PCCF (WL), CCF (KL), PD- OFSDP, Environmental wing and OFDC Ltd.

The main activities of the Department are as under:

1. All the establishment  matter of the Department as well as of the field functionaries.
2. Administration  of the entire field organizations of F & E Department.
3. Co-ordination work  field organizations with other Departments of State Govt. and Government of India.

List of Services provided by the public authority:

   Forest & Environment Department provides service to public through its field functionaries like
PCCF(O), PCCF(WL),CCF(KL),PD-OFSDP and OFDC Ltd., SPCB & Director Environment.

Organizational Structure :

Expectations of the public authority from the public for enhancing its  effectiveness and efficiency.

The field functionaries under the Department need the co-operation of the public for protection & conservation of Forest as well as Wildlife.

Arrangements and methods made for seeking public participation/ contribution.

The field functionaries under this Department seek public participation for formation of Eco Development committees and Vana Samrakhyana Samitees in the adjoining areas of Sanctuaries and National Park.

Public Grievance:

   Public Grievance petitions are accepted by the Grievance cell of Principal Secretary on Saturdays only ( if it is a working day) and action for redressal are taken as per orders of Principal Secretary.
