Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1) Aim & Objectives of the Organization:
a) To protect the forests and wildlife for maintenance of ecological balance.b) To enrich the forest crop in the forest area by way of taking up plantations and other silvicultural operations.c) To enforce laws relating to forests and wildlife.d) To motivate people to protect forests and wildlife.e) To manage forests for obtaining sustained yield of forest produce required for domestic and industrial use.f) To impart technical guidance to public for raising their forest crop.g) To promote farm forestry to reduce dependence of local people on forests.
2) Mission/ Vision:
To protect the forests and wildlife within the jurisdiction of this Division by enforcing law relating to forests and wildlife. Enrich forests by taking up plantations wherever necessary, so that at least 1/3rd of the total geographical area remain under forest cover for maintenance of ecological balance.
3. Brief History and Background for its Establishment:
The entire Forest of Jeypore Ex-Zimindari was under the management of the Revenue Department since 29th December, 1952 when the estate was vested in Government. The management was taken over by the Forest Department on 15th November, 1957 and was kept under the administrative control of two Forest Officers, namely Koraput and Rayagada Divisional Forest Officer. Nawarangpur Forest Division was created in 1968 from the erstwhile Jeypore Forest Division. After reorganization of Forest Department i.e. from 01.10.2003 this Forest Division has following Ranges i.e. Jeypore, Boipariguad, Gupteswar at Ramgiri, Kundra, Borigumma & Kotpad, 20 Sections and 68 beats. Geographically, the area covered by this lies between 170 47' and 190 3' north latitude and 810 22' to 820 42' east longitude having jurisdiction coterminous with the revenue jurisdiction of Jeypore Sub Division of Koraput district. Total geographical area of this division is 2970 Sq. Kms. There are 5 CD Blocks and 5 Tahasils are coming under the administrative jurisdiction of this division. However in the above Tahasils which comes under jurisdiction of the newly created Jeypore Forest Division, there are 890 No of revenue villages existing in 96 Gram Panchayats. There is also one inter State checkgate at Chandili bordering to neighboring Chattisgarh State. In addition to that 2 Nos. of Forest Checknaka gates i.e. Jeypore and Boipariguda are functioning in this Division.
4. Allocation of Business:
Specific duties and responsibilities allocated to all staffs according to the codal provisions of O.F.D. Code.
5. Duties to be performed to achieve the mission:
The Divisional Forest Officer has to see that the following mission is achieved with the help of Range Officers and their Subordinate Staffs.
a) Protection of forest crop and wildlife within forest area under its control.b) Protection of forest crop under the control of Revenue Department.c) Enforcement of legal provisions of Special Acts like Odisha forest Act, 1972, Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, forest Conservation Act, 1980 and rules framed there under for protection of forests and wildlife.d) Enriching the existing forest crop by taking up plantations and other silvicultural operations.e) Motivate and impart technical knowledge to public to take up tree plantation of forest species in their own land.f) Supply planting material to public to take up tree plantation of forest species according to current schemes and availability of funds.g) Motivate public to protect forests for conservation of biodiversity and enlighten them about different awards instituted by Government for outstanding contribution in the field of protection & enrichment of forests and environment.h) Interact with villagers of forest fringe villages and motivate them to constitute Vana Samrakshana Samiti to protect the forest area assigned to them for joint forest Management so that the forests are protected and managed effectively.i) Development of forest roads so that not only the forests are managed effectively, but also village connectivity is available to interior tribal villages.j) Development of water bodies for the benefit of wild animal and villagers living nearby.k) By engaging tribal people living in most inaccessible pockets in different forestry operations, and provided employment and food security to the neglected tribes.l) To increase the socio economic status of Rural people residing in forest fringe area by successfully implementing different Government Projects under F.D.A, CAMPA, OFSDP, OBDA, NON PLAN, STATE PLAN, Centrally Sponsored Plan, NREGS, DRDA etc.
6) Details of Services Rendered:
This Organization renders the following services:
a) Protection of forest crop and wildlife within forest area under its control.b) Protection of forest crop under the control of Revenue Departmentc) Enforcement of legal provisions of Special Acts like Odisha Forest Act 1972, Wildlife Protection Act 1972, forest Conservation Act 1980 and rules framed there under for protection of forests and wildlife.
