Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties
[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]
1) Aims and Objectives of the Organization: i) To protect the forest and wildlife for maintenance of Ecological balance.ii) To enrich the forest vegetation in the forest area by way of taking up plantation & other silvicultural operations.iii) To enforce Laws relating to forests, wildlife and environment.iv) To motive people to protect forests and wildlife.v) To manage forests for obtaining sustained yield of forest produce for the purpose of domestic & industrial use.vi) To impart Technical guidance to public for raising Forest crop. 2) Mission/ Vision: To protect the forest and wildlife within the protected areas by enforcing laws relating to forests and wildlife. Enrich forests by taking up plantations wherever necessary, so that at least 1/3rd of the total Geographical area comes under forest cover for maintenance of ecological balance. 3) Brief History and Background for its Establishment: This Division was created since 03.01.1938. 4) Duties to be performed to achieve the Mission: i. Protection of forest vegetation, wildlife and forest area under its control.ii. Protection of forest crop under the control of Revenue Department.iii. Enforcement of legal provisions of special Acts like Odisha Forest Act 1972, Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Forest Conservation Act 1980, Environment (Protection) Act,1986, Odisha forest Produce (Control of Trade) Act 1981, Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957, Odisha Saw Mills and Saw Pits (Control) Act 1990, Water (Prevention and Control of Pollutions) Act 1974, and Rules farmed there under for Protection of Forests, Wildlife and Environment.iv. Enriching the existing forest crop by taking up plantation and other silvicultural operations.v. Preventing soil erosion and conserve moisture & the soil by adopting suitable soil conservation measure such as: LBCD, Contour Trench, Staggered Trench, Brush Wood Check Dam, Vegetative Spurs, Percolation pits etc.vi. Motivating and imparting Technical knowledge to public, organize work shops & different training programmes.vii) Supplying planting material to public to take up plantation activities in their own land as per different scheme.viii. Motivating public to protect forests for conservation of biodiversity and enlighten them about different awards instituted by Government for outstanding contribution in the field of protection & enrichment of forests. ix. Interacting with villagers of forests fringe villages and to motivate them to constitute Vana Samrakshana Samiti to protect the forests area assigned to them by Joint Forest Management so that the forests are protected and managed effectively.x. Development of forests roads so that not only the forests are managed effectively, but also village connectivity is available to interior tribal villages.xi. Development of water bodies for the benefit of wild animal and villagers living nearby.xii. By engaging tribal people living in most inaccessible pockets in different forestry operations, we provide employment and security to the neglected tribes. 5) Details of Services rendered: This organization renders the following services: i.
