Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims & Objectives of the Organization:
a) To eradicate non standard weights & measures etc. and to introduce Standards standard Weights.b) To ensure use of Standards of Weights & Measures in the State.c) To verifies and stamp the Weights &Measures.d) To enforce the provisions of the package Commodities Rule 1977.e) To issue the License.2. Mission/ Vision:
a) To ensure use of Standardized of Weights & Measures.b) To ensure proction of Consumer rights.
3. History & Background of Its Establishment:
The Directorate of Weights & Measures was functioned under Food & Civil Supplies Department. During the year the Directorate renamed as Directorate of Legal Metrology, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department.
4. Duties Performed:
a) Execution of provision of laws relating to Weights & Measuresb) To verify the Weights & Measuresc) To attend the public complains relating to Weights & Measuresd) To verify the working standardse) To issue license to Manufacture/ Repair/ Dealerf) Supervision and monitoring of consumer awareness and proction of consumer rightg) Control over the personnel under the Directorate of Legal Metrology
5. Main Activities/ Functions:
Functions of the Directorate are as mention under the following Heads:a. Enforcementb. Awarenessc .Consumer proctiond. Legal activities
6. Details of Services Rendered:
Supervision and monitoring of implementation of Act & Rules and policy planning relating to the subjects assigned to the Directorate.
7. Expectation of the public authority from the public for enhancing its effectiveness and efficiency:
The Directorate except the involvement N.G.O and participation of N.G.O, School, and College student at different level in making the Weights & Measures laws more transparent and effective.
8. Arrangements and methods made for seeking public participation/ contribution:
A grievance redressal machinery at the State, District Head Quarter and Sub-Divisional head quarter for redressing grievances of the general public.
