1. Aim and Objective of the Organization:

A. Fresh Water Aquaculture:

i) Resources: The district is enriched with vast inland water resources of 1695.09 ha. in 8 Blocks, as follows:

   In addition to the above mentioned resources, the dead river, water logged area and low lying areas in the district comprises of 776ha., 520ha. and 793ha. respectively.

ii) Aim and Objective:

   In view of the State Fisheries draft Policy aiming at doubling the fish production and draft vision 2020, the critical gaps have been planned to be bridged in the district by providing the fish farmers with adequate quality fish seed as against the current demand of 180 lakhs. In order to produce quality fish seeds, one Chinese Circular Hatchery was established at Naradia under Balikuda Block with assistance from the DRDA, Jagatsinghpur under SGSY Infrastructure Scheme during the year 2006-07.

   Further, in order to put the unutilized water area to the tune of 776ha. in shape of dead rivers to fold of scientific Pisciculture one resource inventory survey was conducted by he Fisheries Dept. and it was revealed that the Govt. land in Alaka dead river stretching within Naradia village of Balikuda Block was suitable to develop a hatchery complex with the breeder tank on the bed of the river itself.

2. Development of Inland Fisheries through Fish Farmers Development Agency.

   The Fish Farmers Development Agency, Jagatsinghpur District is working in the district since 1994-95 with the following activities.

  • To survey and identify the suitable Govt. Land and enhance fish production by development of the area through pisciculture.
  • Expansion of pisciculture by development of Patita land and tanks by renovation through different subsidized schemes.
  • Development of G.P and Revenue tanks by eligible beneficiaries and SHGs by long term lease and arrangement of institutional finance.
  • Preparation of the project report of individual beneficiaries, SHGs and sponsoring them to the banks and arranging finance for development of water area and bringing to the fold of scientific for higher production, productivity and return through FFDA, SGSY, PMRY, NFDB, MGNREGA, Own Source scheme and rehabilitate them.
  • To arrange and supply quality fish/ prawn seed, feed, fertilizer etc. to the farmers in appropriate rates.
  • To train the beneficiaries on scientific manner of Pisciculture.
  • To lease the Govt. tank/ lands to educate unemployed and make them self-dependent by adopting Scientific Pisciculture.
  • To promote Poly-culture/ Mono-culture of fresh water giant prawn in Scientific manner.
  • Arrangement of sale of produced fish/ prawn in appropriate rates.
  • To promote fish of sale of produced fish/ prawn and rearing in private sector and sale/ supply of quality seed.
