Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]

1) Aim and Objectives of the Organization:

i. To implement different Govt. schemes for Chilika.
ii. To implement OMFRA' 1982.
iii. To record fish catch of Chilika monthly basis.
iv. To register and issue fishing licence to the Boat.
v. To restrict and ban illegal fishing and fishing practices.
vi. To enumerate the fishermen household and population.
vii. To aware the chilika fishers on rational management and utilisation of Chilika.
viii. To conduct different research activities for Chilika.

2) Mission/ Vision:

i. To conserve the eco-system of Chilika lagoon with Chilka Development Authority and District Administration.
ii. To make the water body free from unauthorised encroachment along with the District Administration and Chilika Development Authority.
iii. To help the poor fishers for getting the benefits of different Government Schemes implemented for Chilika.

3) Brief History and Background:

   This office has been functioning since 1957 under the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Odisha, Different research activities on Chilika flora and fauna, water parameters, fisheries resource management were taking up along with different research organization of Govt. of India such as Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) etc. After setting up of Chilika Development Authority, all the research and developmental activities on and around Chilika taken up by the CDA. Now this office is giving emphasis on implementation of Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act' 1982 in Chilika Lake.
