Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aim and Objective of the Department:

    Nayagarh being a vast district the Animal Husbandry Activities are designed to be covered up through the V.H., V.Ds, LACs and Gomitra Centers. The developmental programme under A.R.D. Sector is implemented by Addl. VASs. While Veterinary Aids are like Treatment, Vaccination, Artificial emulation and De-worming etc. are provided by the Vets, Par-vets and Gomitras. The details are given below:

b) Artificial Insemination Programme:

    For improvement of the quality of indigenous cows and buffaloes of the District, A.I. Technology has been introduced by the department. The Cow Owners are motivated through Induction Camp, Health Camps, Ambulatory Camps. Farmers' Training and awareness cum animal Health Camps to avail the opportunity of A.I. technology. National Programme for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) is being operated in this district to improve the A.I. Technology.

c) Disease Control Programme:

    Action has been taken to give health coverage to all the Livestock of the District by vaccinating against HSV, BQV, FMDV, PPRV, Goat pox, Etv and etc. The Awareness-cum-Health camps have been conducted in this district to control the diseases with the assistance of ASCAD.

d) Fodder Development Programme:

    Fodder development programme is under taken by the Department to provide green fodder to the animal of the District. One demonstration fodder nursery has been established at the campus of CDVO, Nayagarh by the financial assistance of DRDA, Nayagarh.

Pre-paddy legume: 2-70 Quintals
Khariff Fodder: 7-5 Quintals
Ravi Fodder: 10-00 Quintals

e) Poultry Development & Goat and Sheep Farming:

    To make the District self sufficient in meat production of the following Nos. of Farms have been established in the District till today.

(i) Broiler Farm: 105
(ii) Goat Farm: 20
(iii) Sheep Farm: 3
