Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims & Objectives of the Organization :
The objectives of the Organization are as follows:
a) To work for the development of Livestock resources in the district to contribute in rural economy through enhanced milk, meat and egg production.b) To provide additional income to resource poor through modern Livestock farming practices.c) To generate employment and self employment opportunities in the district.d) To protect the Livestock wealth and community health of the district.
2. Mission / Vision:
The mission of the Organization is to create superior and healthy Livestock in the district/community to augment milk, meat, and egg production etc. both through mass production and production by mass in coming years to strengthen the rural economy. To enhance the per-capita availability of Livestock product so as to reach national average with the demographic changes. To establish Livestock keeping as an important income generating sector and livelihood sector in the district.
3. Brief History of the Public Authority:
The District Veterinary Office Puri was opened on 19.11.1952 and it has been Undergone structural transformation on 08.07.1983. The District Veterinary Office Puri was designated as the office of Chief District Veterinary Office Puri with creation of the posts of Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer Puri as the Drawing and Disbursement Officer which is a revenue Sub-Divisional basis under the administrative control the Chief District Veterinary Officer. Puri.
4. Duties of the Public Authority:
Implementation. Monitoring and supervision of various Animal Husbandry activities and Programmes under taken by the department starting from village to district level through various field institutions on their technical aspects in animal health care and disease prevention.
5. Main Activities/ Function of the Public Authority:
a) Genetic up-gradation of cattle through artificial insemination and breed up-gradation through natural services in buffaloes, sheep, goat to improve their productivity.b) Disease control measures to protect the Livestock through treatment and vaccination etc. to maintain a healthy stock.c) Maintain the public health under veterinary service sector.d) Generation of employment and self employment under Livestock sector.e) Bring up the present subsistence level of Livestock keeping to a sustainable practice through training, demonstration and dissemination of modern practices and technologies.f) Establishing Dairy, Poultry, Layer and Broiler farming as a lucrative profession for rural youth.g) Encouraging small animal rearing and backyard Poultry farming with superior stocks to generate additional income of households providing Livelihood support to resource poor farmers of the district through various A.H activities.h) To assist the district administration in providing technical supports to protect Livestock wealth during natural calamities like flood, cyclone, heat wave etc.
6. List of Services being provided:
a) Animal treatment and Health care.b) Breeding coverage through Artificial Insemination and natural services.c) Vaccinations as a preventive measure to different Animal Diseases.d) Castration, removal of stray bulls.e) Deworming, Infertility and treatment camps to provide Animal Health services at the farmers doorsteps.f) Training to farmers on skill up-gradation, entrepreneur skill under different Livestock sector.g) Fodder cultivation to reduce the cost of production of milk, meat and egg etc.h) Farmers awareness campaign on disease care.i) Self- Employment Generation/ skill up gradation and entrepreneurship development of farmers in A.H. activities.
