Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims & Objectives of the Organization:

  The First aim and object of the District Fisheries Office is to produce and provide disease free, pure quality fish and fresh water prawn seed to the fish farmers for their pisciculture tanks.

  Secondly, to develop the unutilized water logging, derelict water bodies or low productive, low lying land (Govt. and private owned tanks) in to a culturable status by excavation or renovation providing financial assistance through bankable schemes with subsidy of FFDA for promoting the production of pisciculture in the district.

  Thirdly the fishermen community residing on the river bank or reservoir / M.I.P. periphery, who are completely depend to maintain their livelihood, on capture fisheries, the Dept. of Fisheries through its district networks have been providing technical schemes for their fishing equipments with bank finance on Govt. Subsidy (SGSY, SCST FDC) etc.

  Fourthly, The District fishery office through its sister organization / Agency, i.e. F.F.D.A. has been providing technical training to the fish farmers and fishermen for implementing intensive pisciculture scheme, i.e. polyculture, fish seed production, Hatchery management, fishing in M.I.P. & Reservoirs etc. and also holding the fishermen awareness camp from time to time in all Block areas in regular intervals.

  Fifthly, this office monitors the insurance coverage among the fisherman community by implementing Janashree Bima Yojana for their future social security.

2. Mission/ Vision:

i) To cover more unproductive water boding in to productive pisciculture resources.
ii) To install new fish seed rearing projects in order to meet the fish seed demand of the district (Kantamal & Harabhanga Block HQR)
iii) To tag more G.P. tank & in the S.H.G. on L.T.L. basis with renovation under N.R.E.G.P. programme in order to boost the fish production and to meet the per capital fish consumption of the district.
iv) To create a better scope for the rural unemployed youth by integrated fish farming through F.F.D.A. Bank Finance or SGSY Scheme.
v) To strength the economic standard of the rural women/men SHGs through pisciculture by educating them on scientific line of pisciculture method.

3. History & Background of Its Establishment:

i) The Boudh district came into existence after the district reorganization notification published during 1994-95. It has three blocks namely Boudh Sadar, Harabhanga & Kantamal. There are four main rivers passing/ flowing in the district i.e. Mahanadi, Telnadi & Bagh Nadi and Salunki. The following are the brief information about the district and its pisciculture resources.
a) Geographical area of the District -3444.70 sqkm.
b) Total population of the District-373088 sqkm.
c) Total no of village-1152 sqkm.
