Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. History & Background of Its Establishment:

     This Office is functioning under the control of Excise Commissioner, Odisha, Cuttack and Excise Department, Govt. of Odisha, Bhubaneswar. This office is a Zonal office with its area of operation covering all the ten districts of Central Division i.e. Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Baleswar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsingpur, Nayagarh with  headquarter in Cuttack since 01.05.1991.

2. Function & Duties:

     The Excise Deputy Commissioner will exercise the overall superintendent's control and supervision of the Excise administration in respect of his division. He shall control the Excise personal's and the problems of the division within the power given to him under the rules and guidelines issued by Govt. form time to time and report to Excise Commissioner and Govt. for appropriate orders. His principal duty is to assist the Excise Commissioner as an inspecting and advising Officer. He will inspect as many shops as possible in every district. He shall remain in close touch with the Collectors and help Superintendents of Excise in settlement of shops. He will remain under the control of Excise Commissioner and exercise direct supervision over the Excise Intelligence and Enforcement Bureau (E.I. & E.B.) for the prevention of illicit distillation, smuggling of illicit liquor and all other Excise offences. He shall supervise the work of Divisional Excise Chemical Testing Laboratory (DECTL).
