Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aim & Objectives of the Organization:
The organization is known as Mechanical R&B Division, Berhampur under the Administrative control of the Works Department, Govt. of Odisha. The main aim & objective of the Division is to keep the Machineries such as Road Roller, Truck, Concrete Mixer and other machineries in good running condition to be deployed in the different works of the Civil Division of R&B N.H. Division Wings and demand and collection of hire charge thereof.
According to Appendix XXXI of OPWD Code Vol. II, Yard stick for creating of a division that the work load of mechanical division (on the basis of cost of machineries and equipment) Rs. 180 Lakhs. At present the Division is having 86 Road Roller, 3 nos. inspection Vehicles, 4 nos. trucks whose present cost may comes to Rs. 270 Lakhs or more. Besides the above machineries, the vehicle of the civil divisions are being maintained by the Junior Engineer (Mechanical and Mechanical Staff working under control of this divisions). The division is functioning as per procedure adopted by the comitee constituted as per the Works Department Letter No. 25209, dtd. 24.6.1983. Communicated vide Letter No. B-I-V-M-173/83-18131, dtd. 29.6.1984 of Works Department.
2. Mission/ Vision:
The Chief Engineer (D.P.I & Roads), Office of the Engineer-in-Chief (Civil), Bhubaneswar provides Funds basing on Budget Allocation every year for Repair Maintenance of the Machineries and Vehicle. Estimates are being feamed for according to Technical sanction by the Competent Authority and works are executed as per provision contained in OPWD Codes.
3. Brief History & Background:
The Mechanical R&B Division, Barkote was shifted from Sambalpur District and renamed as Mechanical R&B Division, Berhampur in the year, 1988. After abolistion of Mechanical R&B Division, Sunabeda, the remaining Mechanical R&B Sub-Division, Sunabeda along with all the Machineries and Works of that division came under Control of this division on November 2006. As such, this Division have a vast jurisdiction with good number of machineries under its control. The jurisdiction of division covers the undivided Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamala and Ganjam District.
The division consists of four Sub-Divisions namely:
a) Mechanical R&B Sub-Division No. I, Berhampurb) Mechanical R&B Sub-Division No. II, Berhampurc) Mechanical R&B Sub-Division, Phulabanid) Mechanical R&B Sub-Division, Sunabeda
The division is headed by Executive Engineer (Mechanical) with headquarter at Berhampur and one Assistant Engineer (Mech.) is in charge of the Sub-Division and functioning in their respective headquarters. Each Mechanical R&B Sub-Division are Sub-ordinated by Mechanical sections both headquarters and attached to Civil divisions.
