Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1) Aims and objectives of the organization:
The organization is a public works division entrusted with the work of Constructions and maintenance of National Highways under the control of Odisha Works Department with jurisdiction of N.H. 42 from 0/ 0 Km. to 29,350 Km and N.H. 215 from 0/ 0 Km. to 91/ 0 Km. Mean while N.H.42 has been renamed as N.H.55 & N.H.215 as N.H.20 . Accordingly the new chainage of jurisdiction is now N.H.55 from Km.234.811 to 264.420 Km & N.H.20 from Km.83.570 to 174 570 Km.It also undertakes works of other organization on deposit basis under provision of the O.P.W.D. Code.
2) Mission/ vision:
The execute the works as per standard specification with a view to achieve utmost economy and best utilization of public money, to maintain books of accounts with the this purpose and realization Govt. revenue with the said purview. The financial rules, PWD manual and accounts codes are followed.
3) Brief history and background for its Establishment:
This division was created during 1959 (24-7-1959) named as Mahanadi and Birupa Bridge Division and was functioning in a rented building at Cuttack. Subsequently the said division was named as Mahanadi Bridge Division. The works of this division was construction of Mahanadi Bridge. Then the work load of this division had been extended for construction of road from O.M.P. Chhak, Cuttack to 96.5 Km. on N.H.5. There were 6 nos of Sub-Division, namely
(1) Approach Road Sub-Division, Cuttack(2) Mahanadi Bridge Sub-Division, Cuttack(3) Assistant Research Officer, Laboratory, Cuttack(4) Asst. Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Sub-Division, Cuttack(5) Chandikhol Sub-Division (6) Panikoili Sub-Division.
During 1972 N.H.5 from O.M.P. Chhak to Rasulgarh Chhak come under this division and this division renamed as Cuttack N.H. Division, Cuttack. Then the roads from Rasulgarh Chhak to 96.5 Km. of N.H.5 was under this division. Consisting of N.H. Sub division No.I, Cuttack, N.H. Sub division, No. II, Cuttack, N.H. Sub division, Chandikhol and N.H. Sub-division, Panikoili. Due to extension of jurisdiction up to 135 Km. of N.H.5 one number of Sub division at Bhandaripokhari came under this division and again back to Balasore Highway Division. During 1974-75, M.N.P. Roads came to this division and one number of sub division created at Jagatsinghpur named as Project Sub-division, Jagatsinghpur. This division has dealt with the M.N.P. Roads/ Project roads of Cuttack District and then the roads divided into two parts i.e. East side of N.H.5 under R.D. Division, and West side of N.H.5 were under this division. Accordingly one sub division was at Athagarh, named as Project Sub-division, Athagarh. At that time this division was looking after the works of N.H.5 from Pahal Chhak to 96.5 Km. and Rural roads West side of N.H.5 in Cuttack District. After creation of R.D. Department, R.D. roads were transferred to the R.W. Division, Cuttack during 1990-91. During 1980-81 N.H.42 from 0/ 0 to 29.35 Km came to this division on transfer from N.H. Division, Dhenkanal and one sub division at Choudwar after abolition of Chandikhol Sub division. Accordingly this division was running with the 2 nos of Sub Division at Cuttack, one at Choudwar and one at Panikoili. As the jurisdiction of N.H.215 from 0/0 to 91/0 Km. came under this division during 2000, N.H. Sub-division No.I, Cuttack has been shifted to Ghatagaon as N.H. Sub-Division, Ghatagaon.
The portion of N.H.5 relating to this division has been transferred to NHAI during 2002. As such this division, at present has jurisdiction of N.H.55 from 234.811 to 264.420 Km and N.H.20 from 83.570 to 174.570 Km.
4) Allocation of business:
The concerned officials under take the duties in their respective jurisdiction as per the organization chart.
The jurisdiction of different sub division under this division is as follows:
1) N.H. Sub division, Panikoili- N.H.20 from 134.570 to 174.570 Km2) N.H. Sub division, Ghatagaon- NH 20 from 83.570 to 134.570 Km
