Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

Aims & Objectives of the Organization:
This Organization is known as National Highways Division, Rourkela. It is a Division under the control of Chief Engineer, N.Hs (O) Bhubaneswar which is under Works Department, Govt. of Odisha, Bhubaneswr The main aim & objective of this organization is to widening & strengthening the National Highway No.23 from Km.211.5 (Birmitrapur- Odisha Border) toKm.337.3 (Barkote) & No.215 from Km.206.296 (Guali) to Km.269.0 (Rajamunda, N.H.23 Junction), Construction/Re-construction of bridges under them, maintenance & repair of the above N.H road portion. These two N.H roads are playing vital role for transportation of iron ores, Coals from the mines of this periphery to major plants of Odisha as well as for public transportation. The inter state communication is possible by these two N.Hs between Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhy Pradesh etc.
This Division sends estimates for original works, periodical renewal works, and F.D.R work to the Ministry of Shipping Road Transport & Highways Govt. of India through Chief Engineer, N.Hs Odisha in consultation with Superintending Engineer, M.O.S.R.T&H, and Bhubaneswr. Fund for ordinary repair work also comes from M.O,.S.R.T&H through C.E, NH Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
Mission/Vision:
MOSRT&H, New Delhi is the funding authority for execution/ maintenance of N.H.23 from Km.211.5 to Km.337.3 & N.H.215 from Km.206.296 to Km.269.o. Different jobs are sanctioned in plan outlay for the above mentioned road basing on which this Division taken up its execution by competitive tender process.
Brief History & Background for its Establishment:
The Division is headed by the Executive Engineer, and this Division (N.H Division, Rourkela) was created in 1981 which is functioning under the control of Chief Engineer, National Highways, Odisha, and Bhubaneswar. The office of this Division is situated at Km.239/500 on the right side of N.H.23 near Hockey chowk at Mani Colony, Panposh, It looks after the improvement and repair/maintenance of N.H.23 from Km.211.5 to Km.337.3 the N.H.215 from Km.206.296 to Km.269.9 which comes to the control of this Division from 2/2000 after declaration of S.H.10 (A) as N.H.215.
This Division consists of 4 Sub-Divisions namely (1) N.H Sub-Division No. I, Rourkela, H.Qrs. at Rourkela (2) N.H Sub-Division No.II, Rourkela, H.Qrs. at Rourkela (3) N.H Sub-Division No.III, Banki H.Qrs at Rajamunda (4) N.H Sub-Division No.IV, Bonai, H.Qrs. at Bonai. the Sub-divisions are headed by the Asst. Engineers.
