Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1) Brief History of the Public Authority:
Govt. of Odisha Tourist Office Madras was started functioning w.e.f. 01.02.1987 at Madras in the State of Tamilnadu under the administrative control of the Tourism & Cultural Affairs Department. It was created in the erstwhile P&S Department Resolution No-17313/ Gen. Dt.13.11.73. The Department was subsequently renamed as Tourism, Sports & Culture Department in G.A. Department Resolution No-14386 Dt.10.06.80. In the process of further reorganization of Departments, a separate Department was created for Tourism vide G.A. Department Resolution No-270-Gen. Dt.02.01.1991. Subsequently a new Department of Tourism & Culture has been created in G.A. department No.-22049-Gen Dt.30.12.1995.
The Govt. of Odisha Tourist Office, Madras under the administrative control of Govt. of Odisha Tourism Deptt. of the Department of Tourism & Culture a composite Deptt. of Odisha, started in Tamilnadu at Madras on 01.02.1987 to make awareness about the Tourism potentialities of orissa among the people of Tamilnadu at Madras as a Metro city as well as Southern Indian in general.
2) Aims & Objectives:
The main objective of this office is to increase the Tourist Traffic and to extend their duration of stay in the State, Besides the followings are:
i) Running of Tourist Office.
ii) Entertainment facilities to tourists by way of Cultural Programmes, dances, music concert, film shows etc.
iii) Coordination with central Govt. and its agencies, Department of other state Govt. Tourism and bodies, Travel Agents, Tour Operators, Excursion Agents, Any Other Tourism related subjects to promote Odisha Tourism.
iv) Organization of fair & festival through govt. & non-govt. agencies to increase tourist traffic of Odisha as a market.
3) Mission/ Vision:
In order to develop and promote as a Tourist destination in the State this office is to achieve the objective to aware among the Tourists the required infrastructure within the State of Odisha and to organize effective publicity outside the State.
The State Govt. has announced a comprehensive Tourism Policy w.e.f. 29.12.1997 in keeping with the Industrial Policy, 1996.

5) Working Hours both for Office & Public:
10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. with half an hour lunch break i.e. from 1.30 P.M. to 2.00 P.M. on all working days.
6) Grievance Redress Mechanism:
Grievance Cells are functioning as per instructions issued by Govt. in erstwhile Political and services department letter No-9750 dt.18.05.76 and vide letter No-2242 dt.9.2.93 of PG & PA department. There is requisite Grievances redressal mechanism through the Grievances Cell of the Department, Which receives and disposes of Public Grievances as well as Grievances of Govt. officials as per provisions GA & PG & PA Department circulars as amended from time to time.
