Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1) Aims and Objectives of the Organization: To provide regular employment to the weavers of Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh & Athagarh Sub Div. of Cuttack Dist by ensuring supply of required quality raw materials, arranging supply of improved looms & accessories, to promote the sales of Handloom cloth produced by the weavers, introducing new designs and motivate the weavers for product diversification for better wage earning through the zonal Asst. Director of Textiles. 2) Mission/ Vision: As per present scenario, the conversion charges in Handloom sector is comparatively low to that of a daily wage labour working in other sector. Due to this reason the younger generation of this community are expressing their reluctance to adopt this profession for their lively hood. In order to motivate the younger generation to this field, no. of developmental projects are under taken by the Govt. Research & Development works at different level have been initiated for development of Handlooms. Necessary steps are being taken by the Zonal Asst. Director of Textiles for capacity building of young weavers by deputing them to different developed handloom clusters so as to enable them to produce defect free clothes i.e. exportable varieties. The weavers engaged in pre & post loom activities will be trained and massive training programmes will be taken up for producing marketable products as per demand by way of value addition and diversification. In case of made of the weavers will be provided with stitching machine etc. for the purpose. It is proposed that after successful implementation of all the developmental projects, the younger generation will adopt this profession and the wage earning capacity of the weavers shall be increased to 10 % higher to present wage earning. 3) Brief History and Background for this Establishment: This South Central Division, Khurda established on Dt. 18.07.2002 covering undivided Puri Dist. & Athagarh Sub Div. (ADT, Athagarh, Nayagarh & Khurda) for close & better supervision. 4) Allocation of business: Supervision of activities of Zonal Asst. Director of Textiles. 5) Duties to be performed to achieve the Mission: To provide regular employment to the weavers by making backward & forward linkage through zonal officers. 6) Details of Services rendered: Implementation of on going schemes/ Projects through zonal officers. 7) Citizens' Interaction: The Assistant Director and field staff are regularly inspecting/ visiting WCS/ SHG weaver villages to interact with the weavers for proper implementation of schemes. 8) Postal Address of the Main Office: At/Po.- Palla Haat, Dist.- Khurda, PIN-752056
