Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. History & Background of its Establishment:

The Circle Mining Office, Balangir was established for administrative control of Mines & Minerals of the undivided Balangir & Kalahandi district in the year 1962 by the Government in Mining and Geology Department, Government of Odisha, Bhubaneswar having its headquarter at Titilagarh, which was subsequently shifted to Balangir on 13.7.1963. The Ex-Mining Section of the Collectorate, Balangir was amalgamated with this office on 4.7.1966 as per G.O.No.3710/ MG dated 12.5.1966 of the Mining and Geology Department, Odisha, Bhubaneswar. The Circle Mining is functioning by the Mining Officer as Head of Office subject to general supervision of the Collector, Balangir and Subarnapur and overall control and administration of the Director of Mines, Odisha, Bhubaneswar.

2. Jurisdiction:

Administrative jurisdiction of the Circle Minig Office, Balangir extends over three revenue district namely j, Balangir.

Sub-ordinate offices under Circle Mining Office, Balangir:

i. Office of the Sr. Inspector of Mines: Balangir.
ii. Office of the Sr. Inspector of Mines: Balangir.

Survey and Demarcation of Mineral bearing area: Watch and  ward  of Odisha  Minerals  (Prevention of Theft,  Smuggling, Illegal Mining, Possession, Storage, Trading & Transportation) Rules 2007.

3. Allocation of Duties:

i. Inspect work of different mines under concerned jurisdiction.
ii. Inspect mineral transaction, transportation to ensure raising of mineral from non-forest areas.
iii. Development and administration of minor minerals.
iv. Odisha Minerals (Prevention of Theft, Smuggling, Illegal Mining, Possession, Storage, Trading & Transportation) Rules 2007.
