Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and Objectives of the organization:
The aim is implementation of various development programs in tribal sub-plan area for up liftment of down trodden tribal by way of filling up of the critical gaps through education to the tribes. This organization is expanded to devote the employment-cum-income generating activities through self help groups, to raise economic & social status of interior tribes. The tribal population living in remote areas are being covered under development of different infrastructure facilities to let them into the mainstream of the state. As all the Blocks under the district comes under the Tribal Sub-Plan Area the main focus is on the Scheduled Tribe population of the district. The strategy for Development is to stress on the Education for all as revealed in the new education policy 2010.
2. Mission/ Vision:
District Welfare Office under Collectorate, Malkangiri has been established to function as Public agency in the terms to complete literacy programme and monitor the implementation of welfare activities in the district.
3. Brief History & Background of its Establishment:
The ST & SC Dev. Section under Collectorate, Malkangiri is started functioning from 02.10.1992 after bifurcation from erstwhile Koraput District as per Notification No. 49137/R dated. 01.10.1992 of Revenue and Excise Department, Bhubaneswar. This district an area of 61,153 Sq. Kms. consisting of 2 NACs & 1045 Revenue villages and divided into 108 G.Ps, 7 Blocks & 7 Tahasils. According to 2001 census the population of this sub-plan area is 5,04,198. Out of them 1,07,654 S.C, 2,89,538 S.T and Rest of 1,07,006 others. The percentage of literacy comes to 30.53% of which Male 40.14% and Female 20.91%.
