Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Brief History & Background of its Organization:
Rural Works Division-II, under Rural Development Department, Government of Odisha has been created the Govt. of Odisha, R.D. Deptt. Notification No. 9698 dtd. 20.09.07 and the division has been started functioning since 10.03.08. The jurisdiction of this newly created division under Balasore District consisting of 03 (Three) assembly constituency i.e., Simulia, Soro &Part of Nilgiri constituency. This division names R.W. Division-II, Balasore is consisting of two Sub-Division with sections. It looks after the repair maintenance, Improvement, Construction of Rural Roads, bridges and Culverts under R.D. Department in rural Areas. It takes construction and repair works of Government. Building situated in rural areas and borne in the book of Rural Development organization as per availability of funds.
There are 57 nos. of roads having length of 404.415 Km. out of which BT-180.374 Km., Metalling-99.429Km., MSB-18.087 Km., Earthen-56.406 Km., Comment Concrete-49.085Km., Bridge-582Nos., Culverts Nos. There are many small bridge and culvert works were taken up to give all weather road facilities for development of the Socio-Economic condition of the rural people.
2. Mission/ Vision:
To improve, construct, repair and restoration of these roads, buildings, bridges and culverts, this division receives funds from different sources i.e., State Plan, Non-Plan, NABARD/ MLA LAD and PMGSY. According to the availability of the funds in a year the works are taken up accordingly on priority basis to give benefit to the Rural Public. There are 208 nos. of Non-Residential building having plinth area 61616.03 sqm.
It takes construction and repair works of minor and major bridge works. Under RIDF 1 no. of major bridge construction is going on.
3. Aim & Objectives of the Organization:
For construction of bridges and improvement of roads under NABARD, proposals have been submitted. To get NABARD Assistance bridge and road proposal for 2nos. have been submitted to proper quarter. After their approval and receipt of funds works will be taken up.
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY):
The fully GOI sponsored scheme is launched since 2000-2001. The Aim of the programme is to give connective to the unconnected habitations having population more than 500 on population on population priority.
The work under PMGSY of this division in Phase-I, Phase-II, and Phase-III, Phase-IV, Phase-V work has been completed. The ADB-I, ADB-II, Phase-VII, ADB-III, ADB-IV, Phase-VIII & Phase-VIII (Additional) work are in progress.
