Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Brief History & Background of its Organization:
Rural Works Division, Balasore under Rural Development Department, Government of Odisha has jurisdiction under 04 (Four) assembly constituency i.e., Nilgiri, Remuna, Basta & Balasore pertaining to Balasore Division under Balasore district. It looks after the repair maintenance, Improvement, Construction of Rural Roads, bridges and Culverts under R.D. Department in rural Areas. It takes up construction and repair works of Govt. Buildings situated in rural areas and borne in the book of Rural Development organization as per availability of funds.
There are 54 nos of roads having length of 357.900 Km out of which BT-168.928Km, WBM- 26.821 Km, MSB-18.591 Km, Earthen-39.695 Km, Cement Concrete-102.968 Km, Small CD-504 nos. and bridges-4 nos., which provides all weather traffic and facilitates for development of socio-economic condition of the people.
2. Mission/ Vision:
To improve, construct, repair and restoration of these roads, buildings, bridges and culverts, this division receives funds from different sources i.e., State Plan, Non-Plan, NABARD, MLALAD, and PMGSY. According to the availability of the funds in a year the works are taken up on priority basis to give benefit to the Rural Public. There are 387 nos. of Non-Residential building having total plinth area of 103078.62 sqm and 204 nos. of Residential buildings having total plinth area of 23164.64 sqm.
It takes up construction and repair works of minor and major bridge works.
3. Aim & Objectives of the Organization:
Rural works Division, Balasore has taken up construction & maintenance of Rural Roads under PMGSY from 2000-2001. The aim of the programme is to give connectivity to the unconnected habitation having population more than 1000 and more than 500. There are Five blocks under Rural Works Division, Balasore
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY):
The work under PMGSY of this division in Phase-I to Phase-V works have been completed. Out of 4 packages in ADB, 1no. package completed. Phase-VI, 7nos. packages completed, 1no. in progress, Phase-VII, 37nos. of packages completed, 4nos. packages work in progress. Phase-VIII, 20nos. packages completed, 8 packages work in progress & 2nos. of bridge works under progress.
