Brief History & Background of the Organization: This Division mainly Rural Works Division, Malkangiri came into existence from 15.09.2004 with its Head quarter at Malkangiri. The Jursidiction of this Division were the entire district of Malkangiri. It has now been divided into 2 division namely Malkangiri-I and Malkangiri-II due to work load of the district. The Malkangiri-I and Malkangiri-II division have started functioning independently with effect from 28.09.2007. The Rural Works Division, Malkangiri-I covers the geographical area of Mathili Blcok, Khairput Block, Malkangiri as well as K.Gumma Block. This Division covers part of Malkangiri Assembly Constituency and also major part Chitrakonda Assembly Constituency. This Division Mainly Deal with:a) Pradhan Manti Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) progrmme by central Government.b) TFC Works. c) NABARD Assisted Works. Plan and Non-Plan works allotted through Central as well as State Government. While implementing the programme mainly PMGSY in the areas of its jurisdiction. Some specific problems are being faced at site by the contractors. This has led to serious setback on the part of the division where irrespective of tender from time to time, the contractors did not turn up for execution of the works of the Division for which progress of the works were badly hampered. Particularly in ADB Batch II and PMGSY Phase VII related to 2006-07 and 2007-08 has got no response in Naxal affected zones. Also due to other factor apprehending possible dangers from Naxals, some other packages in Non-Naxal area also not responded by the contractor in the process of e-procurement. Also in some ongoing package there were problems created by such anti socials which has morally discouraged the contractors resulting in stopping of works. Till now the total no of packages sanctioned under PMGSY from Phase-I (2000-01) to Phase-VIII (2008-09) in additionto ADB Assisted PMGSY is 46 Nos. The corresponding total road length to be covered 283.03 Km and the total awarded/ estimated cost in respect of all the 46 Nos. of Packages is 92.75 crores. There are 45 Nos of roads having length of 255.39 Km out of which BT-166.435 Km, WBM-62.352 Km, MSB-12.325 Km, Earthern-14.278 Km, Small CD-526 Nos. and bridges-11 Nos. in different Blocks. There are many small bridges and culvert works were taken up to give all weather road facilities for development of the Socio-Economic condition of the rural people. 2. Mission/ Vision: To improve, construct, repair and restoration of these roads, buildings, bridges and culverts, this division receives funds from different sources i.e., State Plan, Non-Plan, NABARD, MPLAD/ MLALAD, and PMGSY. According to the availability of the funds in a year the works are taken up accordingly on priority basis to give benefit to the Rural Public. There are 83 nos. of Non-Residential building having plinth area 12961.26 sqm and 167 nos. of Residential buildings having plinth area 8255.16 sqm. It takes construction and repair works of minor and major bridge works. Under RIDF 1 nos. of major bridges were in progress under RIDF assistance. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY): Rural works Division, Malkangiri has taken up PMGSY from 2000-2001. The aim of the programme is to give connectivity to the unconnected habitation having population more than 1000 and more than 500. There are nine blocks under Malkangiri district.
