Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Brief History & Background of its Organization:
Rural Works Division, Nuapada under Rural Development Department, Government of Odisha has been created from 21.02.2005. The jurisdiction of this Division is confined under the constitutional area of Nuapada and Khariar Assembly Constituency under Nuapada District. It looks after the repair, maintenance, Improvement, Construction of Rural Roads, bridges and Culverts under R.D. Department in rural Area. It looks after the construction and repair works of Government building situated in rural area which are in the book of Rural Development Department and as per availability of funds.
There are 31 nos. of roads having length of 260.40 Km out of which BT-204.620 Km, WBM-45.562 Km, Cement Concrete Road-4.400 Km , Major CD 21 Nos., Minor CD-522 Nos., Bridge-4 Nos., Bridge completed-1 No., NABARD Road No.1 and NABARD Bridge No.4 in different blocks.
2. Mission/ Vision:
To improve, construct, repair and restoration of these roads, buildings, bridges and culverts, this division receives funds from different sources i.e., State Plan, Non-Plan, NABARD, NFFW, CWA, SARCA and PMGSY. According to the availability of the funds in a year the works are taken up accordingly on priority basis to give benefit to the Rural Public. There are 373 nos. of Non-Residential building having plinth area 93357.34 sqm and 384 nos. of Residential buildings having plinth area 48903.17 sqm.
From the inception of this Division 1 No. of bridge has already been completed and 4 Nos. of bridges are under progress under NABARD A ssistance.
3. Aim & Objectives of the Organization:
For construction of bridges and improvement of roads under NABARD, proposals have been submitted. To get NABARD Assistance bridge and road proposal for Nos. have been submitted to Government. After the approval and receipt of funds works will be taken up.
a) Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY):
PMGSY work was started from the year 2000-2001. The aim of the programme is to give connectivity to the unconnected habitation having population more than 1000 in first priority and next to the habitation having more than 500 population. There are five blocks under Nuapada district under the jurisdiction of the Rural Works Division, Nuapada. Till date this division has takenup the construction work of 103 no. of roads under PMGSY from Phase-I during 2001-2002 to Phase-VIII (Addl.) in 2009-10 and from ADB Batch-I during 2005-06 to ADB Batch-III in 2008-09. Besides 11 No. of roads having a length of 40 Km has been proposed to be improved under ADB Batch-V to be takenup after approval from the Government.
Till date 89 Nos. of road have been completed and 14 Nos. of road are under progress and programmed to be completed by June 2011. One No. of road i.e. Nangalboad to Jogabhata could not be executed due to forest land problem.
