Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and Objectives of the Organizations:
This Organization is known as Malkangiri RWS&S Division. It is under the control of Chief Engineer, RWSS (Odisha), Bhubaneswar under the Administrative control of R.D Department. The main aim and objective of this Division is to provide basic minimum facilities like safe drinking water supply through Piped Water Supply Schemes, Spot Sources and mobilize sanitation activities in the rural areas of Malkangiri District.
2. Mission and Vision:
(i) Execution of Rural Piped Water Supply Schemes in different habitations in the Malkangiri District and sinking of Tube Wells, construction of Sanitary wells etc. to Provide safe drinking water to rural habitations, schools & AWCs through National Rural Drinking Water Programme.
(ii) Construction of Individual household latrines, School Toilets, Angwadi Toilets, Community Toilets and Promoting sanitation through IEC in rural areas of the district through Total Sanitation Campaign.
3. Brief History and Background for the Establishment:
The Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Division was created on 1st May 2006 to deal with Rural Water Supply and Sanitation sectors. Earlier there were two RWSS Sub-Divisions namely Malkangiri & Mathili under RWSS Division, Nabarangapur. The Geographical area of RWS&S Division, Malkangiri is spread over entire Malkangiri district (excluding Malkangiri & Balimela NAC areas) comprising 07 Blocks of i.e. Malkangiri, Korukonda, Kalimela, Podia, Mathili, Khairaput, Kudumuluguma, covering 108 Gram Panchayats.
4. Duties to be Performed to Achieve the Mission:
The Supervision Officers have to supervise the work and guide the Field Level Officers and executive agencies to ensure quality and timely completion of the projects such as the Rural Piped Water Supply Schemes, Tube wells, Sanitary wells, Ring wells, Spring Based Water Supply Schemes under RWSS Division, Malkangiri.
