Particulars of Organization, Functions and Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]

The District Statistical Office, Dhenkanal functions as a lowest statistical unit of the three tire statistical system of the state under the administrative control of Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Odisha, Bhubaneswar since 1958.The jurisdiction of this mother district has been divided in to two part due to separation of Anugul as a new revenue district since 1994. The office is headed by the District Statistical Officer who have been delegated with administrative and management powers in respect of all field work under different surveys and programmes in accordance with technical instructions and guide line issued from time to time by the directorate of Economics and Statistics. The District Statistical Office is entrusted with the task of collection and compilation of primary and secondary data on various Socio-economic sectors, Agriculture and allied activities, Price , Enterprise, Minor irrigation, Urban and Local bodies etc. for preparation and publication of District Statistical Handbook and also other statistical reports at the Directorate level. In addition the District Statistical Office, Dhenkanal is required to meet the data requirement of various district level organizations" for effective planning and monitoring of their plan programmes.

Function:
The main functions of the District Statistical Office, Dhenkanal can broadly be classified as follows:

  1. Participation in various surveys of National Sample Survey Organization.
  2. Collection of Producer's price for construction of cost of living indices.
  3. Collection of socio-economic data for villages and preparation of village index card.
  4. Crop estimation surveys of fruits, vegetables and minor crops.
  5. Execution of sample survey under EARAS (Establishment of Agency for Reporting Agricultural Statistics).
  6. Participation in Economic Surveys.
  7. Collection of statistics on Urban Local Bodies and preparation of Municipal Statistical Year Book.
  8. Collection of data to bridge "Information Gap" as identified by DES.
  9. Collection of various "Annual returns" from different district level organizations' under official statistics.
  10. Preparation of Yields data on Kharif Paddy for Gram Panchayats and Local Bodies.
  11. Compilation and Publication of District Statistical Hand Book.
  12. Conducting Census of State Govt. employees.
  13. Conducting Economic Census.

     

    In addition, the District Statistical Office, Dhenkanal is tasked with the responsibility of collection of district level statistics related to Health Education, Transport, and other statistics as required on an ad hoc basis.
