1. Aims and Objectives of the organization:
The District Statistical office is headed by the District Statistical Officer who have been delegated with administrative and management powers in respect of all field work under different surveys and programmes in accordance with technical instructions and guidelines issued from time to time by the Directorate of Economics and statistics Odisha, Bhubaneswar. Balasore District Statistical system of the state under the administrative control of Directorate of Economics and statistics, Odisha, Bhubaneswar. The District Statical Office is entrusted with the task of collection and compilation of primary and secondary date on various socio-economic sector like Agriculture and allied activities, minor irrigation, price, enterprise and urban and local bodies etc for preparation and publication of District Statistical Hand Book and also other statistical reports at the Directorate level. Further the District Statistical Office Balasore is required to meet the data requirement of various district level Offices and also takes the responsibility to supply information instantly to help general public, Research Scholars, Public on their request either verbally or writing. It is intended that the statistical data should be utilized for the developmental plan and benefit of common public.
2. Main Activities/ Functions:
There are some main functions of the District Statistical Office Balaosre as follows.
a) Execution of sample survey under EARAS (Establishment of Agency for Reporting Agricultural Statistics)b) Crop estimation surveys of fruits, vegetables and minor crops.c) Preparation of yields data and kharif paddy for Gram Panchayats and local Bodies.d) Participation in various surveys of National sample survey organization.e) Collection of socio-economic data for villages and preparation of village Index Card.f) Collection of producer's price for construction of cost of living indices.g) Participation of Economic Survey Report.h) Collection of data to bridge the "Information Gap" as identified by Directorate of Economic & Statistics.i) Collection of statistics on Urban Local Bodies and preparation of Municipal statistical year Book.j) Compilation and publication of District Statistical Hand Book.k) Conducting Economic Census.l) Conducting Census of Employees of State Govt.m) Collection of various "Annual Return" from different district level organizations under official statistics.
