Particulars of organization, functions & duties

   District Statistical Office Bargarh functions within the jurisdiction of Bargarh District comprising of two Sub-Divisions, eight Tahasils and twelve CD blocks since 1994, after the re-organization of districts.  It functions under the technical guidance of Directorate of Economics & Statistics-the apex organization under Planning and Co-ordination Department at the state level. The District Statistical Office-primary unit at the district level is entrusted with the implementation of various centrally sponsored programmes like EARAS (Establishment of An Agency for Reporting Agricultural Statistics), ICS (Improvement of Crop Statistics),Socio Economic survey of NSS and the state sponsored programmes  like collection of price statistics, Urban Local Body Statistics,VICS etc. Moreover, it collects data for preparation of District Statistical Hand Book, data on Census of Employees. In addition to this, it carry out ad hoc survey like Minor Irrigation Survey, Agricultural Census, Economic Census etc.. at regular intervals as assigned by Govt from time to time. A brief note on the scheme implemented by the District Statistical Office, Bargarh is as under:-

EARAS:

   It is  a centrally sponsored programme implemented by the state government on a cost sharing basis of 50:50.It aims to estimate the Area, Yield rate and production of principal crop paddy at block level and  12 important minor crops at district level. The field work for the aforesaid purpose is conducted by the SFS posted in the field.20% of the total village are selected every year on random basis to conduct Land Utilization Survey and Crop cutting Experiments  in all three seasons.

ICS:

  
Improvement of Crop Statistics (ICS) is a centrally sponsored scheme designed to locate deficiencies in implementation of EARAS scheme relating to area and yield statistics through joint effort of central and state authorities.

Fruits & Vegetables (F&V) Survey:

   This is a centrally sponsored programme with 100% central assistance. The scheme designed to build up reliable estimates on Area, yield Rate and Production of selected fruits and spices viz.Cashew, Coconut, Banana, Turmeric, and Onion & Chilli.

National Sample Survey (NSS):

   The scheme aims at conducting survey on socio-economic problems of National importance on sample survey method. The state govt conduct the survey on matching sample basis through the

   Directorate of Economics & Statistics. The field work is carried out by the Primary Investigator (PI) posted in the district.

Village Index Card System (VICS):

   The scheme in operation in our state since 1973-74.The scheme aims at to build up a village wise data base to enable the planner to prepare realistic plan at micro level. Presently 5th round of VIC's work in progress.

Price:

   The objective of the scheme is to collect the wholesale and retail price data from selected market which supplements the need for compilation of State Income. Under the scheme price data are collected in pre devised format by the SSFIs posted in the field.

Urban Local Body Statistics:

  
Under this scheme data on health, water supply, income and expenditure, education in the local body area is collected with a view to bring out the publication of "Municipal statistical Year Book". Data on abovementioned aspects are collected from all the three Municipality/NACs of the district.
