Particulars of Organisation, Functions and Duties:

Office of the Deputy Director, Statistics, Southern Range, Berhampur came into being and started functioning from the year 1979 headed by an officer of O.S.E&S cadre of class-I rank.

The Dy. Director (Statistics) office for Southern Range is situated at Berhampur. Presently, it functions in the upper floor of a two storied building of District Statistical Office, Ganjam at Kamapali area just near R.D.C. Office.

The staff composition comprises of one Statistical Investigator, one Statistical Assistant, one Sr. Clerk, one Jr. Clerk, one Driver, three peons and a watch-man. The main functions of the Dy. Director (Statistics) are as follows:-

1. To ensure the timely submission of reports and returns by the 10 district offices under it to the state directorate.
2. To ensure timely starting and completion of scheme works/ census and sample surveys as per guideline.
3. To coordinate the district with state directorate and also to co-ordinate the work within districts.
4. To ensure higher level supervision of works for enhancement of quality of data collection.
5. To give additional support on technical guidance to the D.P.M.Us. on implementation of schemes, census & sample Surveys.
6. To act as Supervisor of the work of D.P.M.Us (Statistical wing) 

To act to the power delegated by the Director to ease his work burden.

After reorganization of Districts, ten districts viz. Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi & Nawapara are there under its jurisdiction. The detail addresses of D.P.M.Us (statistical wing) of Southern Range are as follows:

The office of the Deputy Director, (Statistics), S.R, Berhampur functions under the technical guidance of Directorate of Economics & Statistics- the apex organization under Planning & Co-ordination Department at the state level. Different district statistical offices as the primary unit at the district level are entrusted with the implementation of various centrally sponsored Programmes like EARAS (Establishment of An Agency for Reporting Agricultural Statistics), ICS (Improvement of Crop Statistics), Socio Economic Survey of NSS and the state sponsored Programmes like collection of price statistics, Urban Local Body Statistics, VICS etc. Moreover, they are also entrusted with data collection for preparation of District Statistical Hand Book, data on Census of Employees. In addition to this, they also carry out adhoc survey like Minor Irrigation Survey, Agricultural Census, Economic Census, etc. at regular intervals as assigned by Govt. from time to time.
