Particulars of Organization, Functions and Duties

Aims & Objectives of the Organization:
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has traditionally been the principal organ at the District level to over see the implementation of different anti poverty programmes. Eradication of rural poverty through successful implementation of different anti poverty programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development as well as State sponsored plan is the aim of this organization.
Mission / Vision:
Ameliorate the economic condition of the poor in rural areas by implementing the scheme/ programs of Govt. and by involving the people as well as PRIs members in the district.
History background of Its Establishment:
DRDA, Balangir was previously functioning as SFDA since 3.1.1971. Subsequently it has been renamed as DRDA in accordance with Agriculture & Cooperation Deptt. resolution No.3951/AC Dt.30.1.1981. It is registered as DRDA, Balangir vide Regd.No.18931/14/84-85 dt.30.4.1984 covering all the 20 blocks of the undivided Balangir District. After reorganization of new district of Sonepur 6 blocks pertaining to Sonepur and Birmaharajpur Sub-Divisions were separated with effect from 1.4.1993 from this Agency vide Notification No.14210/Rev.dt.27.3.1993 of Govt. in Rev.Deptt. and Excise Deptt. So after bifurcation the jurisdiction of this Agency is comprised of 14 blocks and 3 Sub-Divisions having 6 Tahasil. There are 1792 Revenue villages comprising of 12, 31,000/- population as per 1991 Census out of which 1, 29,000 are urban and 11,02,000 are rural population. There are 285 G.Ps at present after reorganization of G.Ps as per 1997 BPL survey 2, 01,310 families have been identified and 3,89,700 rural families surveyed. Further as per the BPL survey-2002 - 3, 56,756 households have been identified in rural areas.
