Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and objectives of the Organization: The primary aim and objectives of the Office of the District Labour Officer, Jharsuguda: i) To ensure Industrial peace and harmony for boosting up production and productivity of the Industrial Organizations and to bridge the gap, if any between the workforce & management.ii) To protect the working class from any exploitation by way of enforcement of various Labour laws in the dist starting with, like agriculture shop & commercial establishments, different small/ large scale industries & factories etc 2. Mission/ Vision: a) The vision and mission of this office is to implement the different provisions of labour laws in the district of Jharsuguda for safe guarding of the interest of working class people and quick redressal of their grievances.b) Ensuring industrial peace & harmony by a right intervention of dist labour machinery. 3. Brief History and Background for its Establishment: The office of the Assistant Labour Officer was upgraded after creation of Jharsuguda District and Office of the District Labour Officer, Jharsuguda has been started functioning with effect from June 1986. 4. Duties of the Public Authority: In order to look after the implementation of different provisions of various labour laws in the industrial establishments situated in the district of Jharsuguda, the officers of the labour machinery in the district have been declared as Inspectors under different labour laws, in order to maintain industrial relation & to resolve disputes, like strike, lockout , retrenchment / termination, lay of etc. The District Labour officer & Asst Labour officer have been declared as the Conciliation Officers under Industrial dispute Act 1947 who submit report to Govt or industrial tribunal for adjudication of such disputes by the industrial tribunal & Labour Court & settles the disputes amicably rendering benefits under law to the workmen. In order to protect the interest of the workers the officers/ inspectors posted in this office enforce the provisions of following labour enactments: i) Industrial Disputes Act, 1947ii) Minimum Wages Act, 1948iii) Payment of Wages Act, 1936iv) Inter State Migrant Workmen (RE & CS) Act, 1979v) Child Labour (P & R) Act, 1986vi) Equal Remuneration Act, 1976vii) Beedi & Cigar Workers (CE) Act, 1966viii) Contract Labour (R & A) Act, 1970ix) Motor Transport Workers Act, 1961x) Payment of Bonus Act, 1965xi) Industrial Employment (S.O.)
